Is it wise to trade my 45 for a 22 pistol?

I don't know what brand of ammo you were buying for $35 a box but the American eagle 45 can be had at any given time from multiple vendors for $21 a box in a 6 pack including a plastic ammo can. Even with the shipping it comes in just under $25 per box. So there's that to consider.

I wouldn't sell the 45. I'd keep track of your day to day expenditures and see if there's other things you can do without.

Me for instance I was spending $200 a month on timmies I bought a Hamilton beach coffee maker with the internal pot and dispenser..costs me about $15 a month now for all the coffee I can drink.

There's ways to find the money to still enjoy the 45.

Think about a single action center fire revolver. I use mine more than a semi. More fun, slower shooting, better practice. It grows on you faster than you would expect. Most of us are not going to have the need, Budget, or skill to become an “operator” anyway.

If you want to shoot more, absolutely. Trade the 45 for a 22 plus enough cash to buy bricks of ammo. Or if there is a conversion kit get that.
