I took advantage of a sale and the rebate to buy my first "precision" rifle - the Savage Stealth Evolution in .308

I wanted a LH rifle and, having had the chance to fire a similar model, decided this was the one.


I cleaned it and took it out to do a bit of barrel break in with some hirtenberger.

Cases were hard to extract and evidenced a line, maybe 1/4 to 1/3 around the case maybe a cm ahead of the rim, complete with drag mark from tearing them out of the chamber.

Federal GMM had no difficulty extracting but had the same razor thin line encircling part of the case.


So... Brand new rifle, supposedly put together with some attention to detail, and it very obviously has a chamber defect.


Please tell me that Savage support in this country doesn't blow....
 
Unless things have changed it's through Grech that you get support. My experience wasn't fantastic, but I cannot and will not speak for the experiences of others.

Had the same issues with a 110 ba, and some research says very common. Mine to the point of having to pop casings out with a cleaning rod. Polishing the chamber helped, I just couldn't see sending it back to a company that let it out like that to start with.
 
For all the reading I did I never saw that mentioned as a common problem. Guess I didn't read enough.

It's such a sharp feature on the brass that I can see it limiting case life. It looks like a fine knife edge was rolled into the case

I had to beat the bolt to unlock it with a couple cases.

If I hadn't been hung up on a LH gun I probably would have tried one of those Begara B-14

How do you go about polishing the chamber?

"Have a gunsmith do it " would be the proper answer lol. Myself, I used an old cutoff cleaning rod, cordless drill, and 600 grit emery. Almost impossible to remove anything but the finest ridges with the 600, but stayed away from the shoulder area anyway.
 
I think I'll take your initial advice...

Seems folks here don't think much of Grech (this isn't the first time in my years here that I've heard things about them).

Savage also lists Complete Gun Repair in St Johns as another warranty centre.
