And you call yourself a gunnut? A gun to a gunnut is like heroin to an addict...they will do whatever it takes to get the next one. Besides, you will keep getting money every 2 weeks.....that next gun is here now, and will eventually get paid for.

Personally, I have not paid a cent in interest on my credit card in a few years now. But the conveniance of merely phoning in an order, and not having to deal with the balance until the end of the month, is a selling feature for me. That said, I won't be jumping on this M1 train any time soon...it looks a little clunky.
 
LOL - stencollector - I was trying to be funny. I pay for stuff over the phone with cc all the time too, but I don't run a balance. Nevertheless, not outspending your means is always good advice :)

By the way - it occurs to me someone is going to suggest I am slamming dealers' pricing for my own self-interest. In anticipation of that eventuality, I will point out I AM NOT A DEALER despite my CGN handle. I have dealer status here on CGN due to my affiliation with Milsurps.com and we contribute financially to upkeep costs here at CGN and so are afforded dealer privileges. I am NOT competing with any dealers offering M1 garands for sale.

I will also point out that P&S and Milarm are VERY likely NOT padding their profits to screw us over. I have done business with both outfits and can attest that I have NEVER had a bad experience at P&S and I used to be very satisfied with Milarm until a few bad deals soured me on them a few years back, coupled with the policy they had for a while of charging a non-refundable $25 fee for getting pics of rifles they were selling. They may well have improved immesurably since then - I can't comment from a position of recent experience. But I will say, the prices they charge PROBABLY reflect the wholesale price they paid plus whatever their normal profit margin is.

I still think these guns are overpriced, but I don't mean to imply anything negative about the sellers by saying so - though Milarm certainly has not been the most cost-effective source on many items in the past.

I suspect we will see a few more dealers list these rifles over the next few days. Should be interesting to see what the volume sellers are going to charge.

Pretty much sums up what I think about it, I would like a shooter Garand, eventually, but these prices seem awful steep for a mere shooter, so I'll wait and see on this one, if I miss the boat, oh well, there's plenty of other, cheaper types of milsurps on my shopping list as funds become available ...

No one is saying for sure, but it's the popular internet rumor at the moment. I have no special knowledge that it's the case, though they are the likely candidate as we do know they own garands in offshore locations and John has repeatedly hinted at bringing them in at various time.

It's not Marstar, it's Trade Ex Canada Inc. who is the importer.

And I would expect that based on my source, the picture on Milarm's website is a stock photo, as the rifles have not yet been registered with CFC (as of Sat last) b/c they came sitting in a vat of grease.

I am curious to see the shape they are in and the source before I commit.
 
That's interesting news if correct. TradEx is run by the same folks that used to run the Montreal Century Arms office, so they certainly have the contacts.

I doubt your claims though about them not being registered and ready for sale, since P&S seems to have them ready ship as of last night.

The source will be most interesting IMHO.
 
Hmm... I was speaking with one of the dealers participating in this M1 import today. It seems there are far fewer M1's in this import batch than was previously rumored. These may actually not last long enough to affect prices given what I now know about the import.

FWIW, if you realyl want a garand - you might well consider buying one now at these steep prices. I already have all the M1's I need, so I won't buy unless prices drop, but if I didn't have any garands and really wanted one, I'd revise my position to a buying stance.
 
PS: I was unable to wrestle the country of origin out of the dealers I've spoken to. At this time, they are tight-lipped about the source country :( Anyone care to speculate? Could be fun...
 
Reason I doubt Greece is twofold:

1) Greece has already shipped virtually all their M1's back to the US which were then subsequently sold through the CMP. Greece did this because the alternative was paying the US government for their value. They were not about to actually go with option B, so CMP shooters have been happy ever since.
2) Greek M1's were all arsenal refinished in Greece and were generally surplused with like new black colored parkerized metal and many replaced like new handguards made of some mediterranean teakwood looking furniture. The currnet rifles have worn finishes and dinged up wood, not new black parkerizing and like new foriegn handguard wood.

Of course, this is just my reasoning - I could well be wrong ;)
 
It sounds like very few are coming in. My reasoning for Greece is the volume left is low. Other countries have much larger quantities. Maybe Denmark, maybe Lever forgot a few? They would of course be marked as well. They could also be left overs from the Baltic countries. Pretty much any country in Europe will have at least a few lying around from the war.
