Found this the other day while skimming through Amazon Prime video (which is included with your Amazon Prime subscription). It's about an hour long show that talks about the development and use of the AK-47 around the world as well as the development and use of the M-16. Seems to focus more on the AK as it is more widely available around the world.

Anyway, found it interesting and figured some other Red Rifle guys and girls may enjoy it too.
 
I think you just use what your government issues you. No sense debating which is better. You wouldn’t have a choice anyway.
 
Lots of pics in Vietnam of GI's carrying enemy guns.The Israelis even keep some AK's around as ammo is always available should you need to drop by at the neighbors.

Well lets see.

Does not have a crappy breakable aluminum lower.

Use a gas system that does not send back all the crap back into the action.

Uses a superior caliber (would be too long to elaborate, i don't care)

Built like a tank, less parts, more reliable etc.

There is just too many reasons.
 
I'm a fan of Soviet/Russian equipment no doubt..... But if it ever came down to it, I'd take a M16/AR pattern rifle to battle long before I'd pack a AK/AKM.

Ever notice how the Russians have slowly been styling their guns more and more to the likes of the Western world? First they dropped the 7.62. Then they adopted adjustable stocks, then top reciever mounted optics, then finger button/toggle safetys, then semi free floated tube forends..... Yet how much has the AR pattern rifles changed over the years ? Not much lol. If it wasn't better than the AK pattern, America would've dropped it by now.
 
Rick911 based on your comment I'd like to ask: how many years did you use/shoot/train/live combat with the AK47?
On my personal experience of (X) years using in the army the issued AK47 I can say that your "top class acclaimed firearm" is a piece of junk ... !
I can't say that M16 is better or the best (never used one) but after using/shooting targets with restricted semis AR15 for 25+ years now, the AR is a lot superior in the field to AK47.
This is my personal opinion and is not based on you'humble videos or reviews.
