i am looking to buy this gun in .270. i want to have to not travel to far out to shoot. i wanted 308 but i think the .270 vertal to shoot closer to the city areas. barrie and above. i not into hunting big game yet but i think what i have been told that this gun could do dear and even mouse for future uses.

i also like to use it as a target shooter.

think right gun or something better out there?

If money isn't an issue then yes your on the right path. Buy once, cry once. I'm a fan of the 270 but a 308 is good too. Either or will work fine for deer and moose.

Define "target shooting" because if you wanna bang steel out past that 500-600 yards, 308 would be a better fit for that. Higher BC of bullets, and more options for leads and even more options for factory ammo (target loads) if you do not reload. If you wanna just punch paper under 500 yards 270 will be just fine.

At the end of the day its personal preference and either caliber will suit you fine. Don't cheap out on optics either as that is just as important, if not more important, then rifle choice. Good luck and happy shooting.

Google "sako 85 ejection problems". I wouldn't touch a Sako 85 with a 10' pole.

I have the .270 in Grey Wolf...have shot over 3 boxes of shells through it and no issues whatsoever with ejection issues, using standard Sako Optilock rings and bases and a Zeiss HD5 Conquest...acccurate as hell, and smooth as butter!

A while back I owned a Sako 85 Grey Wolf in .270 .. and yes, it did have the ejection problem.
I also owned a Sako Aii Forrester in .243 (made in the early '80s) .. and it also had the ejection problem.
I recently acquired a Sako 85 Finnlight in 7mm08 .. and no, it does not have the problem.

So, the ejection problem is not specifically with the 85's.
And those 85's that do exhibit the problem are usually (but not always) the long-actions.

talked to a friend who also had issues with the first sako a7 he returned so its just draw of the luck i guess.
