Got my 527 today and it's light & feels right fer me. The rifle is slim as is the barrel,(Almost pellet gun slim) but that's ok by me.
This will be a stalking rifle and plinkin' device, not a long range varmint machine. You're right about the walnut Clay, decent it be fer sure.

I did the Remington 30ar instead, you can buy factory loaded 125gr ammo with the tsx that goes 2800fps. I wouldn't have an issue using it on larger game, taken a few deer with my ACR already

No worries for me with the 24 incher hoytcanon.
I could bring down the tube length a tad an re-crown 'er easy enough, but after wanderin' round the house whilst carrying & doing aim-an-squeeze drills, I'm finding
the beasty to be a sweet little unit handling wise. The first thing I will do though, is bed the action & ensure that it's square to the stock & that the action screws don't touch wood, followed by a nice Tru-Oil finish inside & out. I will probably need to add a touch of up-tension on the barrel near the tip of the fore end,
but I'll see how it goes. I'll be topping the bugger with a 2-7x33 scope which works well fer me in these parts.
The weirdest fookin thing happened a bit over a week ago. The floater in me right eye went away. Too fookin nice!

I've been reading up on the 6.5 Grendel forum down in the US and it appears the Howa Mini Action is the most popular, and it fits all of the requirements to a tee, literally. It's lightweight (5.7lbs) with a 20" HB and detachable mag.
I have heard some complain about the mag release being forward of the mag, so accidental release has happened, but I consider that to be something memory reflex would take care of eventually.

Looks nice, a lot like the one I got last year. I have one suggestion. I don't know how they finished the stock but they are very porous, soaking up anything , try getting a drop of cleaning solvent on it. It took several applications of finishing oil to fill and seal the pores on mine.
In a way I would like a heavier barrel, somewhere in between the slim pencil barrel I have an a full varmite as most of my shooting is off a bench. When I got mine there was no choice and I am happy with it, at least it's light enough to carry and do some stalking if that's what I want to do.
Reload. Down here south of the border we can sometimes find Wolf ammo fairly cheap. I started with the caliber back before it was standardized, getting the barrels from Alexander Arms and building a couple of AR types, and finally after years of waiting got a CZ527.
Back in those early days the only loaded ammo was from Alexander Arms, and very expensive as expensive components were used, mostly Lapua brass and bullets. I did get some of their brass and it's top notch. I finally got a decent quantity of 7.62x39 IMI brass and simply resize it, load and shoot to fireform. Through my AR the fireforming loads are accurate enough for casual shooting/plinking, if you take into account a much lower point of impact vs standard loads. They still generate enough power to cycle the action. Brass quality seems excellent and so far I have had to do nothing other than resizing regarding case preparation. Now with the availability of Hornady brass I would not go this route. I have found loaded Hornady ammo on sale at decent prices but don't know the situation in Canada.

Yep, the walnut is typically porous & I'll be giving mine about 6 hand rubbed coats of Tru Oil to seal 'er up. Once the finish is cured, I'll then buff the stock with 4-0 steel wool to dull down the gloss a tad.
I've bedded the action thus far to ensure that the action is square to the stock & the barrel is fully free floated. I have a fresh bag of Starline brass & a box of Hornady 120 gr GMX bullets to work with, along with a box of Hornady 123 gr SST ammo. The prices up here ain't bad for Grendel stuff. The box of Hornady SST's cost $31.95. A pack of Federal blue box 308, 150 gr SP's cost me $29.95.
Me CZ is ready to hit the range as soon as I do up some mid-range loads with the GMX's.

Happy spankin'.
I like efficient use of powder for the weight of bullet and the downrange performance achievable in the Grendel. Gonna be a fun cartridge to work with.

Winner, Winner. It’s obviously not a full cartridge collection or anything, it was just a bunch of loads I was testing at the time and thought it might make an interesting comparison.
Next on the to-buy list is a 6.5-284
