Anyone know of a good smith who works on lever actions?
Mine is so rough and now lever is stuck open.
Preferably someone in Canada.
DIY.
The Remlin 1895 is an easy action to strip, clean, deburr and reassemble.
After deburring and polishing the action is slick as greased lightning.
Lots of instruction on YouTube.
All you need is a fine grained stone, jewellers files to smooth off the machining burrs and rough spots.
Washed the parts off in fast drying mineral spirits first and gave the gun a good cleaning.
Relubed with Remoil during reassembly.
Took me a couple of nights in front of the TV watching hockey and smoothing and polishing parts.
I replaced the trigger group, ejector, magazine follower with WWG parts and installed the Brownells Cowboy Action spring kit.
I also filed down the flat spring that closes the loading gate because it was very stiff at the start.
