that said, you may wish to take hoyt's comment in context chuck. he meant he didn't like that bullet/cartridge combination because it took up space in the Creedmoor and impaired it's performance it did in the Swede, due to it's longer length and inherent case capacity.

That's actually backwards. In the same length action, say Rem SA- a short, fat case w/ longish neck will have less bullet intrusion into the case capacity, than a case that gets its capacity from a longer, tapered design.

Not that I really care and it is splitting hairs for most folks uses. I'll have 2 6.5CM here soon, but I like all the 6.5s. Haha. If I was wanting a more classic wood/blued hunting rifle, it'd for sure be a 6.5x55.

Your point is only correct when compare the different length cases in the same length magazine... in this case, the 6.5 CM is seriously hampered with that bullet in the short action magazine, where as the 6.5X55 in a long action has a lot more room to play with... I just finished loading 100 of each so that they would load and feed reliably with the 143 ELD-X and the difference was readily apparent.

I choose 6.5x55 because it’s the only I own one. My 6.5x55 is down loaded because it’s being ran through a AG-42 and I don’t want the gas system to explode. 2400fps in a 140gr is more than enough for a deer though. Dare I say enough for a moose or elk.

I always wanted a 6.5-06 , I wonder how it would perform with my favourite, the 160 Hornady RN?

I'm surprised that they still offer that bullet as there have been many other long term Interlocks dropped from the line. I had to scrounge hard to find some 7mm 175gr RNs for my 7x57.

I'm betting that 160 would be a great bullet for moose.

I grabbed all those from a list of common 6.5mm hunting caliber's.

what are the 6.5mm short action options?
I don't own any 6.5, but that could change soon. If I was wanting a short action, it would be the 260 rem or 6.5 CM, and I would lean towards the CM, jmo. If I was going with a standard action, I would lean towards a 6.5-284, but I have to agree with SuperCub, a 6.5-06 would also be nice. I would be happy with both. A 264 win mag would also be high on my list.

with BC being fairly important, what are some of the reasons you would choose something like an Hornady RN over what appear to be better options?

BC is only fairly important if your shooting long range. Most moose and bear are shot at shorter range. I like RN bullets. Use them in my 30-06 as well.

BC is not everything... if you are shooting under 300 yards, accuracy is the key and then bullet performance... I shoot the Hornady RN's in half a dozen rifles because they flat out shoot better than anything else I tried... 160's in 6.5X55, 174's in .303 Brit, 200's in .358, .35 Whelen and .350 Rem Mag... all excellent performers on paper or hide.
