22 hornet vrs 22k hornet

I have had many of each... I have a K reamer and turned half a dozen Hornets into K-Hornets... the K is a better design... you only pick up a grain, but it makes a difference in both case life and velocity, without giving up accuracy... Lil'Gun is THE powder.
 
Unless in a special rifle, like the Brno ZKW 465, I think one is better off with the 221 Fireball.

The same brass lif can be expected from the KE as the K the shoulder is the same only a little farther forward. I know this because I bought the rifle used thinking it was a Hornet, wrong, so got dies for K Hornet, wrong, so had to get custom dies made. A fairly pricey procedure but glad I went through it.
 
I've had a few of each. Finally sold all my hornets after getting my "holy grail" hornet (a left handed browning a-bolt micro 2). I had full intentions on cutting it to a k hornet, I always got much, MUCH longer brass life as a K..... however, after almost 5 years searching for my a-bolt, I didn't have the heart to cut it into a K.... but if it's any run of the mill hornet, id cut it to a K from the start.
 
I find it interesting that the science is decided on the .22 Hornet and that everyone basically says the same load is the only load to use with it now.

how can that be possible for the .22 Hornet but not for all the other cartridges out there? :yingyang:

I agree with the .221 Fireball... it will be much more accurate all other things being equal... the thing against the Hornet is it is based on a crappy rimmed case...
 
I love my hornet for what it is. It’s not the most powerful or fastest but it is the first of its kind with its own niche’. If I want more power I’ll reach for something else but if I’m just having fun shooting gophers or beer cans @ 100 yards it’s the first gun I’ll go for. And a pound of lil’ gun goes on forever loading these little buggers.
 
i have had several hornets all which have been CZ527's, i had not had any issues with case life in any of my rifles. I bought a 1000 win. cases many years ago as I had heard case necks do split.
I have used the same 300 cases all these years and not split a single neck. Now I have an Amp annealer and the same 300 will likely do me till I am done shooting... FS
 
I'd go .22 PPC meself over the Fireball. Brass ain't hard to get plus, this round is supremely accurate for long range target work & fer pest critter removal.

I had a BRNO 465 years ago that was a delightful rifle for hunting the woods. The fit, finish & feel of these rifles was better than the 527's that we get now. Loved the double set trigger.:)

My beefs with the one I had were:
1) That fooking .223" groove diameter which restricted me to using Speer 45 gr bullets at that time.
2) That fooking 1 in 16" twist barrel which forced me to use a light bullet no matter what.

I've dinked with a few other .22 Hornets as well over the years like the Savage 340 ones, but my absolute favorite .22 Hornet was an Uberti single shot, rolling
block pistol that I scoped up for target work. That was fun, ;)

when you did the conversions were they by hand or on a lathe?
