A week ago I sent off to SIR and ordered myself, among other things, a Maverick 88 Security. I got it today and was very pleased with the overall appearance and fit & finish. I can't wait to get it out to the range. :D

There was one troubling issue though. I bought some 12Gauge snap-caps so I could practice with it and they jam it tighter than a mother Samuel L Jackson.:runaway: I suspect the rims of the el-cheapo brand snap-caps I bought aren't strong enough to withstand breaking when they hit the cartridge stop and/or cartridge interrupter and they now appear to have little "bites" missing from the rims. Anybody else had a similar issue?

Anyway, as is customary, here's a couple pics of my latest acquisition.

right on, i picked up a 20in a couple of months ago. i have an old set of caps, they seem to work good for me, might just be the ones your using.

Great shotguns, I have one in a store on consignment as I ran out of room in my safe, but I loved it.

Sounds like you snap caps are faulty, I've used several, and some worked better then others.

They are light shotguns so IMHO keep the full stock on it and don't bother with a pistol grip.

Also I'll PM you other info...

Also welcome to the crazy 88 club. :D

Milarm is a mossberg dealer, and they have awesome prices. I bought my 88 from them with the 20" barrel AND the 28" field barrel for around $300

Nice gun. You'll enjoy it.

Maybe you want to modify it like mine. It is a security 88 which I bought with only a pistol grip (a bit hard on the hands).Changed the grip to an ATI combo, added a heat shield and cheapo tac light. I also bought a 28" VR barrel with screw in chokes for it from Frontier to make it more versatile.

Mavis looks sweet.
Is that a knoxx recoil stock on her? :)

Here is the one I have on consignment:

Hmmm maybe I should bring her home.

I made my own Security version. It's not a Maverick, but rather a Lakefield-Mossberg 400G, basically a Canadian model 500. I had an extra barrel, so I cut it down to 18.5" and retapped for the front bead.

I had a problem with plastic 12ga. snap caps (Pachmaer I think) getting stuck in the mag tube of my Fabarm. The gun works perfectly with real shells.
So instead of snap caps, I now use fired shells as snaps.

There are only two reason I don't love the Maverick.

1) It's a bit light for my tastes. The Knoxx stock can probably minimize the extra kick associated with it's weight.
2) The el cheapo action bars heat fused into the all plastic forend. Too twisty in my experience. I bought a metal replacement for the 500
