What are everybody's thoughts on the .260 caliber? Won't be going after moose or elk with it. Mostly just some target shooting maybe some smaller game. It seems like it is a decent caliber and will be good at long range if you reload. Seems like there is a bunch of reloading info for .260 in the reloading section on here. I have shot .22, .243 & 30-06 before but never the .260
 
I like the 260 especially for long range work out to 1000 yards. I’m running 139 gr Lapua Scenar. Had great success with the Lapua Scenar 123 gr and 108 gr booolits.

For coyotes I carried a bunch of of rounds loaded with 95 gr Vmax slugs. Very accurate hunting Varmint booolit that behaves like a Match slug. :cool:

These days I’m loving my 108 gr loads exiting at 3018 FPS at 24* C

Currently I’ve got a Magpul 700 barreled action parked in a Greyboe stock for my LR work. What I love the most about the 260 round is that it’s slippery through the wind. I also adore using slightly necked up brass from 243 once fired range brass. Shoots good enough for the varmints I pursue!!

As I was looking through my hand loaded 260 ammo, I realized that i’ve loaded up about 50 rounds of 140 gr SST booolits for deer season. It’s gonna take me a lifetime of deer hunts to shoot all that ammo off, I guess I will have to used them 140 gr SST’s on coyotes... :cool:

Enjoy the 260 fun. No doubt there are all kinds of more case efficient caliber like the 6.5 CM, but the 260 works for me.....

Why not?

The .260 "caliber" is just as good as the .25 caliber or the .27 caliber or even the .24 or the .28 caliber. The case you use to shoot it also matters. But for a medium game cartridge of various capacities, all those calibers are just fine.

Probably talking about .260 rem.

I have one. I like it a lot. Still in the load developing stage.

Leaning toward 120 grain Sierra match bullets.

I’m just paper punching but it would be great on deer with a hunting bullet.
 
rral22 sorry should have said .260 Remington so Bigbubba was right. I picked up some Nosler 120g just for getting it sighted in. Been trying to figure out what bullets to use for reloading. Was leaning towards the hornady ELD-X 143Gr. Seems like people have been happy with it but a little worried that's a bit too heavy of a bullet.
 
Myself and my shooting partner both switched over to .260 Rem late last year and We love it.

We won the BCRA Precision Rifle Championship Open Team division, and were top Over all Team with our .260s.

We shoot 139 gr. Lapua Scenar bullets (Mine fly at 2930 fps). I have also use Hornady 140 gr. ELD-M bullets as well with great results.
I will be loading Hornady 140 gr. ELD-X for Moose hunting this fall.

We weren't interested in drinking the Creedmoor Koolaid........ ;)

I have no idea why you should have any "worry" that it is too heavy. I would consider 140 grains as the ideal "all around" weight for a .260 Rem. Completely suitable for up to deer sized game (although for a specific varmint bullet I would test lighter bullets) and would likely work just fine on moose or elk too (although for a specific moose/elk bullet I would like the heavier bullets).
 
The bore size may be .260 But the name of the caliber is 260 Remington. No "."

Adding a decimal to the name of a caliber is usually a mistake only made by British fiction authors who are unfamiliar with firearms.

Glad to see somone else that also realised the CM is mostly hype.
 
this is this mornings test target from my 260 Rem

I am new to the 260 and I really like it for a couple reasons....one for sure is very low recoil
Two is that it is based on 308 case so my #3 shell holder works for it and 308 and 22-250.....it never comes out of the turret press or the priming tool. Sweet.

Powder - IMR 4831
Brass - Peterson (new)
Primers - CCI #200
Range 100 Y

Try H4350. That seems to be the go to powder for a lot of the 6.5s.......

I run 43.0 grs. of H4350 with a 139 gr. Lapua Scenar.
Lapua cases, Fed 210M primer, seated to 2.850.
Barrel is a 26" Bartlein 1 in 8" twist.
Velocity is 2930 fps.

I think you answered your own question. Only one on your list goes by 260

My buddy said he has good luck with IMR4350

So my question - is there much difference between IMR & H 4350?
 
For hunting bullets try 125gr partitions,130 gr accubonds and 140 partitions. I'm currently favouring the 130 accubonds.
