Is making your own buttstock pad (hate plastic marlin ones) legal?

Hi, I was wondering if removing a plastic buttstock pad or cap and making your own from antler, wood or leather is legal in Canada? I hate plastic on a gun and want to make one from Caribou antler for my Marlin 336W, but am not sure if this counts as an illegal rifle modification. I know covers are fine, but want to check before doing this.

I'm no lawyer but as long as your stock ensures that the rifle keeps its 26" OAL to keep its non-restricted status you can make it out of gold and the government wouldn't care.

As long as it stays over 26" you're fine.

Well, I believe you'd have to almost remove the entire butt stock on a 336 to achieve 26". That would rank right up there on the "acts of stupidity" scale
