Was just curious where the .308 semi auto precision rifles that we have available in Canada in the 3k$ price range. I wish I could buy a psg or sr 25 but those are 10k upward....

LOL
I must be getting old. Seems like just yesterday that a tuned up M14 NM with a suitable optic would be a good choice.
Perhaps a bit over the budget now ?

I’d build off a stag 10 receiver

This. There is no other option really. Ive tried a fair amount of Non-res semi rifles. None would fit in the precision class... Perhaps with a good trigger and a custom barrel things could be different.

LOL

Nope definitely still in the budget. Just not as ergonomic as most.

The weight is usually the same but you can customize and personalize the AR type plat form much more and they are set up much better for optics.

Build a custom
M25 LRB receiver
Krieger barrel 22 inch
With USGI parts.
A lot of parts and diffrent stocks available
Walnut, black feather , archangel , delta , vltor , troy , M1A , M2A and M3A McMillan and fiber glass USGI and ....

You can have in between 0.5 MOA to 1.5 MOA

As much as I like M14 style rifle but in reality man it's a ##### to carry it around with the a scope and bipod, way too heavy. I have a sub MOA M14 style with a Vortex AMG but it spends most of the time staying in my safe.

An AR10 style rifle like a Stag and BCL 102 would be the best choice for customization, easy to get sub MOA and way cheaper than M14 style rifle.

Does it have to be noon restricted? A jp LRP07 is a pretty nice semi auto precision rig. Lots of reports of sub 0.5 moa. The 6.5 Creedmore version now has an FRT since I tried to bring one in.

The discussion of semi-auto precision rifle needs to involve the rate of fire.

A 3 shot sub-moa gun achieved by super low rate of fire is meaningless. The idea of a semi-auto precision rifle is to have precision and rapid rate of firing, consistently.

IMHO, the precision of a semi auto needs to be measured by both mechanical precision at a determined rate of fire. It must maintain that accuracy for 10 to 20 rounds at say 20 rounds per minute

It is restricted. Regarding rate of fire there's videos of people doing the jp challenge which is to hit a gong 3 times at 800 to 1000 yards before hearing the impact of the first round. In the video they measure the rapid fire groups and both sub moa and one group half moa

If you don't care about NR status because you only shoot on a range, then I highly recommend a lightly used Lewis Machine and Tool (LMT) Modular Weapon System (MWS). This is the exact same rifle as was adopted by the British Army as the L129 Designated Marksman Rifle during the Afghanistan campaign. LMT Lower Receivers are manufactured alongside KAC and are interchangeable. The M WS beat out all of the contemporary DMR contenders to win that contract. In other words, the British Army has done your homework for you! I have one with both the 20" .308 stainless match barrel and the 20" 6.5 Creedmore stainless match tube. It is a tack-driver, next only to my precision bolt gun (Cadex .308 Guardian Lite). I cannot recommend the LMT MWS highly enough!
