Wild boars in western Canada: “ecological trainwreck”

htt p://www.rcinet.ca/en/2017/11/15/wild-boars-in-western-canada-ecological-trainwreck/

Hello,

Just wondering if Ontario hunters have started to use bay and catch dogs to go after Wild Boar yet?

I have seen some YouTube videos of Americans doing it in many States. I assume Canadians will be doing this too?!

Thanks,

TDM :d

the source of all wild pigs , private industry encouraging government stupidity. :) Captive elk and deer brought us chronic wasting disease, for the same reason.

Grizz

oh the ministry better hire those " expert " from down under to cull them ..... cause only they can shoot well enough to do it humanly and for top dollar !

AFAIK, boars are shoot on sight in Ontario.

In Eastern Ontario, in Prescott and Russell its a boar free fire zone :)

https://www.ofah.org/2014/09/mnrf-authorizing-landowners-hunters-to-kill-escaped-wild-boars-in-prescott-russell/

Wild boars have been observed in wooded areas and in adjacent farm fields in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell beginning in late summer of 2013. Wild boars (feral swine) are not native to North America, but are sometimes farm-raised for their meat or other commercial purposes. The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act (FWCA) requires that any escape of wildlife that has been transported into Ontario, or has been propagated by stock that was transported into Ontario, must be reported to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) and that the owner of such wildlife must recapture or kill it as soon as possible. To date, there has been no report of escaped wild boars and MNRF staff persons have been unable to determine the owner of these animals. As a result, the MNRF is authorizing landowners and hunters to kill any wild boars sighted as per Section 54 (5) of the FWCA.

Seen that picture of the one deer hunters shot last year near Magnetawon. It's a big pig and I heard of a gang near Elmvale that seen pigs as well. We haven't seen any sign where we are (not far from reported sightings)

At this point it wouldn't bother me if feral pigs called our camp home. The deer population isn't very plentiful and getting a moose tag pretty rare so having some pigs to shoot might just make me hunt more up there again

This shoot on sight would explain how some peoples' pot belly pigs were shot in their front yard somewhere south of Ottawa.

Eh those boars are good eating ......mmmmm home made bacon ...tell me who doesn’t like bacon!!!.....pork chops ....mmmm back ribs!,!
I know if there was one in front of me... well it would be good eating
You see those people down in the states ...Christ almighty they pay big bucks to go hunt them !!!!
Bloody hell years ago I did a hunt for one in mount Forrest ....the game farm is now closed .....but I’ll tell you the 8 friends I had over ..ahh man what a feast
