Why not take off the mammoth 6x18x50AO with lampshade, replace with a Leupold 2x7 in LW mounts, cut the bbl back to 24" and add a 1" Decelerator to help with recoil?

Thats a very good suggestion , He had thought of doing that but my uncle talked him out of it saying that it would decrease accuracy and the value of the rifle . Personally I think thats the way to go . Recoil is supriseably manigable and I dont think 2 - 3 in off the muzzel will make it that much worse.

If I'm not mistaken those A-Bolts come with a 26" bbl. Cutting it back to 24" with a proper crown will not hurt accuracy and it will be easier to carry. Going less than 24" would be too short. Add a good scope, like a Leupold 2x7 or 2.5x8 and it would be a totally different (handling) rifle.

Is your uncle a gunsmith?

He took an at home course from starrets so no. The "mamoth" scope probably reduces the recoil too dosnt it? & it is a 26 in barrel taking off more would be to much in what sense?

sorry didnt really fraze that right. ment for it to sound like will it turn into a kicking machine. That scope must weah near a pound , & why not remove more of bbl , will it turn into a hopper?

Yes, any reduction of weight will result with an increase in recoil in any rifle.

Most small bore magnums require at least a 24" bbl to burn the extra powder efficiently. Less than that offers a very small increase in velocity over the non-magnum equivalent.
