Anyone mount glass on a Mare's Leg?

If this has be covered before, steer me there. Lately I'm redundant Oilpatch so my Computer time has been non-existent ( got to get going already), so searching isn't really an option.
I'm doing a lot of hay-hauling in remote locations ( hay / farm fields ) and see coyotes on a regular basis. I've a re-stocked Mare's Leg, which is a handy unit to say the least...except the sights suck.
I've an extra scope, a Leopold 3X fixed with an infinite focus, a tad long for the purpose perhaps...but paid for.
It'd be nice to extend the range to 200-300 yards, that'd put more coyotes on the Hay trailer for sure...a nice $$$ bump in the spring, which would be welcome.
If anyone has any constructive input ( other than get another rifle better suited to the task ), it'd sure be appreciated.

Mare's leg and scope is not usually found in same sentence. However, if so inclined - get one with long eye relief or a scout scope. With a folding stock, a regular scope would do it. Hard to get accurate out to 300 yards without shouldering. Just my logical/theoretical opinion as I do not own a mare's leg rifle.
 
Pistol calibre Mare's leg rifles are not a accurate or good 300 yard varmint/coyote rifle, even with a full butt stock, your hold over at that range would be extreme, let alone judge wind drift. You should swap out the fitted sights with a receiver mounted peep sight and settle for a 150 yard shot as max. range with lots of practice to be able to get accurate hits at that range.
 
IMHO, an sks, even with open sites, would be a better choice than a mare's leg for what you describe.
investing in a scope and mount for it would make it even better.
 
No Elmer Kieth here, but I'm assuming the bullet would run true after leaving the bbl...I think Elmer could handily pluck rocks at 300 yds with a pistol.
An SKS or it's ilk are decidedly awkward to pack or get rolling out of a semi.

I'd say your max range is not realistic, would you expect your scoped 30/30 to be a good 300 yard gun?

Maybe try a 3/8th dovetail to weaver conversion on the front sight? Not sure if your scope has enough eye relief.
 
It's a scout type model.
And according to ' Six-guns' lots of folk have down 300-400 yard shots on coyote sized game...with pistols.
A Mare's with a full length stock and good glass should make it hot for Wiley...even in non expert hands .

Would be a cool setup with the scout scope and full stock, ultimate truck gun.

I am not a long range shooter or coyote hunter by any means. I don't know what kind of drop you would expect from a .44 mag at 300 yards. I wish you luck though.

I remember sitting on a sandstone outcrop outside of Wolf Point Montana and being totally amazed at how far a 5 1/2 bbl Ruger Blackhawk could lob 158 grain hollow points.
Using open sights I was hitting a coyote sized rock likely 50% of the time at close to 200 paces and I was pretty new to handguns at that time.
It was great practice because you could see the dust kick up whenever you missed.
Yes it takes some serious hold over but it can be done.
 
I might and think of it time to time but only after the mod I pulled on mine. I still haven’t brought myself to wreck the lines of a short range little carbine...... The full stock was the best thing I’ve ever done for the accuracy to the Mares Leg LOL.

Guilty.... LMAO. Was anyways, always had the crews salvage all the metal nameplates off the old switch gear lineups we where replacing. Have some beautiful GE meatballs off a turbine hanging in the shop must be 20” across and high polish aluminum. We knew how to truly build stuff back in the day.
