Who’s excited for sept!

I'm excited for September and the changing of the colours and the upcoming season for deer as well.
But,that excitement is being consumed with concern for the forests and this years fire-season.
Last week we had 135 more fires burning in BC for the same day last year.
anyways, get ready, get stoked and be careful out there, we want to enjoy it again for years to come.

As hoytcanon mentioned drones are a no go with regards to hunting, I gotta say too that the scouting is half the fun of hunting. Being out in the bush exploring new areas is one of the things I enjoy the most.

I know lots of guys using drones now for hunting. just a tool like scopes on rifles or quads.

Just because you are using them, does not mean it is legal. It is not considered "fair chase" and falls under the electronics clause of hunting regs as translated... FYI, scouting is "hunting" by regulatory definition. This may change at some point (?), but as far as I know, it is in place in most, if not all, jurisdictions. Probably best not to post about it on a public forum until you check your local laws.

I didn't think it was possible for sportsmen to get even lazier, since the event of the 3 wheeler, but progress never ceases to amaze me.

Progress is all about making things easier, and more efficient, if a drone ensures I have a successful hunt I see it no different then high powered rifles scopes, quads, 4x4 trucks, side by sides, propane heaters for tents, water resistant clothing, microfiber insulation for jackets, GPS compasses, composite rifle stocks, MRE meals and what ever else that helps to make a successful hunt just a tool in the bag to be used. The laws are antiquated and need to be changed.

Yes indeed. How 'bout them jeeps equipped with a machine gun, like on "Rat Patrol". That'd be just the ticket for hunters wanting to fill their tag, without wearing out their boots.:d

Lol. That's awesome, laws only count if you agree with them. If anything that makes your hunt easier and more efficient is fair game can we expect you to be out pitlamping? Shooting off highways maybe?

Drones should not be used for hunting. It does not fall into the category of scopes or transportation to and from a hunting area or any other convenience that has evolved. It is cheating plain and simple. A scope for e.g. allows for a clean kill with less chance of wounding an animal. You are not allowed to scout with plane and then hunt ( do not know the exact time parameters here). This is no different. There is no skill using a drone to pinpoint animals and then taking them out. Maybe this is considered a " grumpy old man attitude" to the younger more tech savvy generation but it is how I feel. Nothing said so far in this thread has convinced me otherwise.

It’s still illegal and honestly as lazy as it gets, this article is from 2016. The very last line states it’s prohibited to use drones in quite a few provinces, Alberta included.

Let’s keep it on topic, start a drone thread if you want to discuss the benefits of why you think it should be legal, I think the majority prefer to get our boots dirty and enjoy the pre season workout.

It is also illegal in many areas...

We're talking about BC here, please either quote me a direct mention of this in the current regs, or a common law case involving use of a drone to "scout".

edit: found in the regs, page 15:

It's unlawful [...] 27. To use a helicopter, including a drone, while on a hunting expedition.

That being said, there is no definition for "hunting expedition".

"I'm not scouting, I'm taking footage for a video prod I'm working on."

These are the only things I use for scouting: Spotting scope, binoculars, boots and truck. Absolutely no electronic devices of any kind are in my pack, especially trail camera's! Many people today have very little traditional hunting skills. Many are lazy and dependent on electronic technology.....very sad.

I purchased my big game tags the other night just need to pop by the Post Office and buy my migratory bird stamp and I Booked my holidays for Oct/Nov/Dec and I’m good to go! I usually save my five weeks holidays for the fall and work through the summer especially during the dog days of summer knowing hunting season is just around the corner is killing me! Best of luck this year everybody, be safe and shoot straight looking forward to seeing everyone’s pics this year! :)

Duh....

"Hunting ;

Includes lying in wait for, searching for, being on the trail of, pursuing,
chasing or shooting at wildlife, whether or not the wildlife is killed, injured,
captured or harassed. You need a hunting licence to do any of these things,
except where the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997, states otherwise."

"Expedition :

A journey or voyage undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose, especially that of exploration, scientific research, or war."

Love it, we heat the house 100% with wood. I get all my firewood split and stacked by the end of August usually, sometimes earlier. Everyone always comments on how on top of it I am, I have to explain to them the two reasons. It’s gets me in shape for hunting and I can spend all fall hunting and not getting wood last minute like everyone else around town.

Great pics. My wife bought me a guided goose hunt for my birthday last spring. It's on 15 Sept.

Awesome, sounds like you have a great wife.

I'm pretty excited! Went to install an other trail cam yesterday and stalked two whitetail bucks to 30 yards thanks to the wind!

Got me pretty pumped, one of them was a dink but the other looked like a solid buck. Can't wait to check on that new trail cam! Archery Mule and Whitetail deer starts opens on 15 Sept...
