Who’s excited for sept!

These are the only things I use for scouting: Spotting scope, binoculars, boots and truck. Absolutely no electronic devices of any kind are in my pack, especially trail camera's! Many people today have very little traditional hunting skills. Many are lazy and dependent on electronic technology.....very sad.

I think you should leave the truck in the driveway and pack a spare pair of boots.

Get back to us on that... for some bizarre reason, it rarely works that way...

I’m semi retired now and I just try to get everything important done before the season opens, everyone knows come sept I’m in the bush and not committing to anything that isn’t hunting until November 31 lol. It helps that my wife likes the thought of a freezer full of wild meat, so she’s very supportive of me trying to fill it!

Of course I'm excited for September, but I wanted to enjoy the summer too.

I was planning a summer off from everything, in fact I resigned in June and officially retired but the damn company called and needs me out on the river to work on a boat collecting fish from the gillnetters.

Now they're gonna make me miss the Sept. 1 four-point mule deer alpine hunt I was planning.

Oh well, there's still the Sept. 10 blacktail opening and my moose hunt too.

Love it, we heat the house 100% with wood. I get all my firewood split and stacked by the end of August usually, sometimes earlier. Everyone always comments on how on top of it I am, I have to explain to them the two reasons. It’s gets me in shape for hunting and I can spend all fall hunting and not getting wood last minute like everyone else around town.

Awesome, sounds like you have a great wife.

Yes I do! Every 24 months I buy her a new firearm (she now is a restricted and non-restricted firearm owner). She loves duck hunting with her 870 express magnum. There is a over population of geese where we are going. On 15 Sept between her, her friend (who is the guide) and myself, we can whack 30 geese. I can't wait! I will post pics up when It's over.

I see the odd tree is starting to turn, only 10 days or so and the elk will be talking. This is when September starts to get real, sure looking forward to it now!

Been retired nine years and the list just keeps getting longer. All kidding aside it does allow you more time in the bush. It is like being self employed you can work any 16 hours/day you choose. (old joke).

Sounds like you know something I don't. LOL You must be retired.

Oh man, I can't wait. Just trying to kit some last parts of my kit ready and sighting in using my new ammo I'm trying out: Hornandy Precision Hunter.

It's funny reading about the people using drones to scout the land. I'm a younger guy and I'm looking forward to the tracking, chase, strategy etc. That's the fun part, along with being in the great outdoors and away from the hustle and bustle of life. I know that using a drone might make for a more successful hunt, and outside of it being illegal in some places, sometimes it's those years that you didnt tag something that makes you itch for the next year. People now only want the end result so that they can post it on Instagram.

I thought use of drones was illegal in all places? or can you use them for predator hunting...?

I'm old enough to have watched tv in black and white and owned a rotary phone, but I do consider myself an early adopter of technology.
I think hiking and scouting is part of the hunting experience and had never thought of using a drone, but I actually can see a bit of a use for a drone.
A few weeks ago I got turned around in the vehicle when the road got to bad. I walked up a bit and it stayed pretty rough. I may have been able to slowly crawl through but I didn't want to get myself into a situation, so turned back.
Now who knows, around the next bend or over the next rise the road may have gotten better again. A small little drone could have given me a pretty good idea of what was ahead and if it was worth risking. So I can see a use for them in some ways. Using it to track and follow animals though just seems against the principles of fair chase.

OK bring on September so we can stop contemplating this kind of stuff and get out hunting!!!

light frost this morning up here in the south cariboo
time to harvest what's left of the gardens and do a little fishin before I drag my gear out and think about things with antlers..... plenty of time :)
