Diana air rifle Model 16

Hello everyone,

I am the proud owner of BRAND NEW Diana Model 16 air rifle. I need help in determining age and value of this rifle.

I picked one of these up last year for $20.

They are smoothbore and many were made, from the 1940's (IIRC) right up into the 1980's. Was yours manufactured in Germany or England? The earlier ones (pre-1960's) were made in Germany are apparently more collectable.

As with anything, condition is everything... but value for one in top condition would still probably be less than $100; like I say I bought mine in an antique store for $20

I enjoy mine it's surprisingly accurate with the right pellets, for a smoothbore!

Hmmm, this rifle seems to be more common than I thought. Mine was manufactured Germany and I was told that year of manufacture was 1938. It is still in original packaging with original oil on it :cool:

If it is actually made in 1938 and German, WITH the original box, then it would climb to a different category of collectable, again depending on condition both of the gun and the box. Original boxes are hard to come by. At that point it's no longer "just another Diana 16".

The Diana Model 16 was made from 1922 - 1940 and again from 1950 - 1985. According to the Blue Book of Airguns, Tenth Edition, the earlier version of the Model 16 had a smoothbore octagon barrel. Nevertheless, to be a "wartime" Diana, it would have to be either a 1939 or 1940 manufactured air rifle. (The image attached appears to show Nazi Brownshirts, members of the SA (Sturmabteilung) or Nazi Party paramilitary, not German soldiers, with an air rifle. The SA was greatly diminished after 1934.)

Very interesting. Good info. And wow I just realized my mistake on the date there.... corrected myself. Getting old...
