Need to pin Lee Enfield magazines?

Pardon my tip-toeing into the milsurp forum, but I've got a line on a Lee Enfield for sale and wondered the following: does the magazine need to be pinned to 5-rounds? I am unsure because while it is bolt-action, it's also centre fire. I haven't seen the rifle yet but wanted to find out in advance if it needs to be pinned or not. I'm a shotgun/rim fire guy who is a bit out of his element on this one...

No, unless it is above 10 rounds. Bolt action rifles do not require magazine pinning.

However, the Lee Enfield is specifically named at having 10 rounds max, so if you found a trench mag, it would need to be pinned. (I believe because they noted semi auto Lee Enfield conversions.)

A Mauser M1898 trench mag does not need to be pinned.

Aren’t our laws so much fun.

Yes of course!! Because SMLEs converted into Howell Automatic Rifles are so common these days!!

Ontario has no mag restrictions for hunting other than A)What is prescribed in the Criminal Code B)Semi-auto and repeating shotguns must be plugged to hold no more than 3 in the magazine and chamber combined.

I thought it was all shotgun hunting in Ontario, even slugs?

In BC the only time you can hunt with more than 3rds in your shotgun is if it's loaded with single projectiles(slugs). All bird hunting is limited to 2+1. Rifles carry no restriction, and its illegal to use a handgun, period (so no air pistols ect either).

Correct and in BC anything with a barrel shorter than 305mm or 12.79” is illegal to hunt with, so 12.5” 12g grizzly is legal to hunt with but an 8.5” barreled 12g grizzly isn’t legal to hunt with. 8.5” is still fine to shoot and use for predator control as long as it’s 26” or greater in overall length.

correct me if I'm wrong but isnt 12.5" shorter than 12.79"?

Where would I find that in the regs? I can't say that one caught my eye at any point...

Near the front section, cant remeber off the top of my head but its there. Also, manually repeating firearms have no legal magazine restrictions, there are a couple of exceptions Enfields are legally limited to 10.
