My well used garand is having some scarry problems. Every few rounds the oprod slips off its tracks. Is this an issue of a worn oprod or could it be a reciever problem?
There is a nub on the rod that engages a track in the receiver. The rod must be properly in and stay in. If it pops out, I think it is the rod malfunctioning. The steel on the receiver is much more robust than to let get worn down.
Dumb question - is it properly assembled and lubricated? The US CMP has a free Garand manual to download.
Ya, its lubed and assemled properly. I figured it was the oprod. Well maybe I can get a goo deal on one of the crap grade garands at milarm. Assuming it will not be cost prohibative.
Been there seen it done it. My Garand had the same problem years ago. Be careful buying a used one (The one I bought lasted 500 rds). I got lucky and finally found a new NM op rod in the US. But it took me a couple of years to find it!!!

I was at milarm today and they had a whole bunch (about 30) of cosmolined garands lined up behind the counter. From the exterior, the bunch of them looked really ratty (battered and painted stocks, no bluing left) except for a couple with somewhat nicer wood. The prices started at $600 and after the grading was done, they anticipated selling the better ones for $800. Yes, they got about 75 of them from trade ex. So, am not sure if you'll be getting a good deal on one of these garands
