So I opened up an old box of .32 special 170gr Speer bullets I had kicked by around and there were 96 proper bullets and and 6 spitzer bullets in the box - measured and weighed them and they are .311" diameter and 150 gr. Am I correct in assuming these are for .303 Brit? Anyone else had this happen before?

I had a few .308 bullets in a box of 6.5mm once. I emailed Sierra and they sent me another box and told me to keep the .308 or throw them out. Try emailing Speer and see what they say.

I haven't had any boxes that included the wrong bullets but I did have a box of Hornady 150gr FMJBT bullets awhile back with a couple that were half formed.

These were from closeout stock at wss. I bought about 8 boxes at the time. Not too worried about refunds and all that - just wondering how common this is.

With companies cranking bullets out by the millions it's no surprise that the odd screw up occurs. Considering the volume produced it's surprising that there aren't more. I've actually had a couple of faulty rounds with mashed projectile in boxes of factory ammo.

I actually had the exact thing happen. 308 in my 6.5 Hornady ELDx. They never responded to 2 different emails.

I had a box of 6.5 x55 ammo have three cartridges labeled a different caliber once( they were correct ...just different headstamp).

I stumbled across an assortment of weights in a box of Campro 9mm 124gr. Had 5 - 115 gr and 4 - 147 gr and 1 - 180 gr .40 cal projectile too. I contacted campro to voice my concern about the safety issues. The response was " that's why we add a few extra to each box"

I've had a couple of 9mm pistol bullets in a bag of Remington .224 55 Gr. FMJ bullets, obvious and annoying, but not unsafe.

A more disturbing one was a Hornady 150 gr. .312" Spire point bullet for .303 in with otherwise identical 150 gr. .308" bullets. It got stuck in my seating die or I would have loaded and shot it in my .308 Win rifle. With a powder charge that had been worked up to maximum pressure and speed. Not sure what that oversized bullet would have done to my rifle, but I'm betting not good. I sent lot no. and photos to Hornady.
Hornady basically said, we make lots of bullets each day, mistakes happen. That's it.

Those incidents kinda turned me off Hornady, and Remington.

Their response was factual, but not very smart.

At the end of the production cycle the bullets tumble along and are visually seen by an inspector, who pulls out the obvious duds.

Occasionally this box of duds goes to packaging instead of eh scrap heap. Customers getting those boxes are really pi ssed.
