Hi, gunners, I am huge fan of HK 416, especially their HK416D 10.5 inches SBR version. Since the ture 416 are unicorn rilfes in Canada, and they are crazy expensive, so I think the most easy way is to get a MR223 and have it done by gunsmith to get close to 416D. here are some of my question.

1. Is it possible to have the MR223 barrel cut down to 10.5 inches, and still work properly?

2. Get the 10.5" conversion kit from HKparts.com, but What I heard that barrel requires a special HK tools to remove, and gunsmith will need that tool too to remove it?

3. Is MR223 univeral like the other AR platforms ? I have seen other branded 10.5" barrels, not sure if it will fit with MR223, and still function properly.

4. Any body recommend some awsome gunsimith that I can contact with to answer all my quiestions.

Thank you folks , and have a great day.

conversion barrel comes with the tool. Mine was not a difficult swap. Some people have reported accuracy problems with this barrel conversion, but mine has been fine.

Yeah as COBRAGT states don’t cut it, even if it’s below 18” it’s illegal to cut it shorter.

And if I remember correctly the AR barrel has a pin where it lines up in the receiver, and the HK barrel has a notch that the barrel fills with a raised area, goes about 1/8 to 1/6 of the diameter of the barrel. Maybe someone can post a picture so it’s clear what I mean.

I think somewhere in this section I believe Greentips made an entire write up on all the compatibility factors of the different HK's. It was never stickied at the top but was buried. There is a whole mess of differences between all the different HK 223/416 types so I would highly recommend finding and reading that.

My advice would be to buy a MR223A3 with the 11" barrel (upper), I built a 416 upper with a 416 barrel, it wasn't cheap.
If you can source (a) the barrel, and have a MR223 upper the conversion is relatively easy, I have the wrench for the barrel nut, no worries bud!

TacOrd are HK armourers, they can sort you out. Good Luck.

BTW, I haven't been on Gunbroker for awhile, but I think that HK 416's uppers are selling for as low $3500, if that interests ya?
