let's talk about the 6.5 Grendel!

I've been looking at that CZ 527 MTR for a while now, and it's amazing! Although I'm not sure where the 6.5 Grendel fits into my collection, I think it would make an interesting varmint rifle with the 97 Gr V-max, although compared to a 243 there isn't much point besides being able to use a micro action rifle (CZ 527, Howa mini.) Or at least that's what I'm telling myself, to keep from pulling the trigger on one.

I'm heavily contemplating building an ATRS Modern Sporter in 6.5 Grendel for coyotes. Change my mind. :)

Do it! I've looking at NR semi auto's for hunting/varmint/fun use. Plus being made in Canada gives it that extra edge for me. It's too bad I have all these things I want to do gun wise my diesel swap for my sidekick is sucking up all the funds. Only way I could ever deal with the shooting ban in the lower mainland.

^^^ How's that BSF barrel working out so far?

I have 130 rounds through it so far. 80 factory Hornady rounds, the rest hand loads. It was shooting factory hornady around 1.5" at 100 yards, although 4 of the 5 shots would be around ~ 1 inch with it typically throwing a flyer to make the group 1.5". So far with my handloads i've seen a .5 inch 4 shot group, but with a flyer making it 1.1" 5 shot group. So far it hasn't shot any 5 shot groups sub moa, which is disappointing...but I think the potential is there. I also haven't ruled out some external factors (i'm going to try a different gas block) I'll definitely post some updates as I get out shooting some more with it.

I've been reading up on the 6.5 Grendel forum down in the US and it appears the Howa Mini Action is the most popular, and it fits all of the requirements to a tee, literally. It's lightweight (5.7lbs) with a 20" HB and detachable mag.

I have heard some complain about the mag release being forward of the mag, so accidental release has happened, but I consider that to be something memory reflex would take care of eventually.

anyone have/use a Howa in 6.5 Grendel?

I picked my 6.5G HB Mini action up from Prophet at the Calgary gun show...

Really decent rifle for the money, it honestly feels like a toy in the hands even with a Nikon Prostaff on top of it, factory 123gr ELD-M is very consistently 3/4 MOA and hand loaded with AR-Comp in lapua cases I'm sub 1/2 MOA at 2550fps...

I did need to tune up the barrel channel on the stock a whisker and the fore end is a limp noodle but after a clean up around the edges it's not an issue unless you lay on top your rifle...

You can eliminate the mag release issue buy shortening the lever up, even with half of it cut and rounded off there would still be plenty of material to release the mag with one finger...

As much as I'd like a Maccabee in 6.5G I'd likely cry every time I loose a piece of brass... I may put my action in a MDT Chassis tho... They do make one for the Howa mini action :)

Hunting mode!

Got my grendel ready for hunting. Swapped the NF for my Leupold VX-2 6-18 LRV and ordered some QD sling swivel bits so she'll be ready to carry around.

Going to order some 125gr Partitions and carry this for moose, deer and wolves.

I took my mule doe and a large WT Buck with mine
Both dropped in place at 300
Bullet was against fur on opposite side.
Bullet placement is key.
