DLASK Custom DAR-22 Review and testing thread !

I'm personally a die-hard, bolt-gun-guy...so I want CK to be PRETTY successful with this gun..but you know. :)

Hey CK~what's the deal on that Hornady 22LR ammo? Where did you find that? I don't even see it on Hornady's site. Maybe I wasn't looking close enough. :)

Bullseye has some. It wasnt stellar. It was alright though.

Ok SO...

NOT the best conditions to test in... I got a few pics.

It was heavy rain winds between 20-40 kmph... Big gusts.

50 yard testing.

Hornady was not that good... 1 inch groups... Rarely less.
Federal gold match was worse.... 1.5 all day long.
Then some ELEY Edge (pictured) wasnt terrible! Not what I want though...

Tried and true SK Rifle match though... She came through for me. It wasnt looking good at first. It showed promise though so I played with the action screw torque...
Magpul recommends 20lbs... I tried 20, 30,40 and 35. The 4 groups I shot that all landed under .500 I had it at 37 pounds per square inch.

I think with good weather and rifle SK match I can hit the 1/2" challenge. Will have to wait till next week though.

Cleaning, what do you reccomend? I dont really want to take the barrel off, I also dont want to enter from the muzzle with my cleaning rods... Maybe some type of barrel snake that I hook patches too?

Should I clean it? What do the Rimfire gods recommend? **looks at grauhanen,RabidM4U5 and wayupnorth**

EDIT NVM there is a hole drilled in the back of DLASK receivers for your cleaning rod to go through.

Hey CK~I'll chime-in on the cleaning. Since getting my TT, I've admittedly been taking cleaning (and cleaning supplies) allot more seriously. Top-tier rods, bore guides, etc. However, for as long as I can remember..I've been using the Patchworm Kit (20/20 concepts) as well. http://www.patchworm.com/ I have the original kit from them, added super-intensive felts (Nordic sells those too), and also have the .17 cord. Looks very simple, and it is..but I've found it super effective. I don't consider those super intensive felts optional, as they're taking the place of the brush. All packs-up super small, and the Patchworm is what I travel with when gophering out west. :)

Oh that is cool! thanks for the tip! 100% worth getting!

Right now as handy as the DAR 22 rear receiver hole is you still have to do a full disassembly! Very cool though that I dont need to take the barrel off and can use my carbon fiber rods and nickle plated jags!

i use bore-snakes for all my guns, even my 22's.

that said i rarely clean my 22's barrels.
they have to be pretty dirty and noticeable changes to the accuracy before i mess around with cleaning the barrels.
cause once ya do then ya have to re-season the barrel to the ammo.

i do love watching the old guys at the 22 bench range in Calgary shoot one.... run a jag through, wait 5 minutes, shoot another, run a jag through, wait 5 minutes.
can hardly wait till i retire and can spend all day at the range firing 20 rounds.

That’s the way those “ rednecks” clean their Anschutzs at the range.

Lol it was not an insult. It is a good idea! Soldering iron ? Lighter? Best way to melt it ?

Nordic is all sold out of the Felts :(
Tesro has them though :)

Not sure if I want to get the high end sampler pack from tesro or grab a brick of 500 SK match and hit the challenge... I might grab a brick... Then later see if I can shrink them down even more with better ammo.
I would love consistent .250's

The felts are effective for cleaning, especially the intensive ones. Bore Tech Rimfire Blend is a good cleaning product. Pull through systems can be very good and I use them at the range. I find that every few hundred rounds usually calls for a bit of brushing.

Ok awesome!

Tinfoil on a stove element is a trade secret?

My man!

Thanks for all the info gents! Now I just need to get back out there !

If its available try a box or two of eley contact. My dar22’s shoot it really well. I got to get my hands on a brick of the sk. I haven’t seen it locally anywhere in my area.

Yea, im not super worried. I will be able to do the 1/2 inch challenge with this rifle when its not a storm out. Shooting in rain with winds between 20-40 with big gusts was not ideal.

1/4" groups with a rimfire are a certifiable challenge, good sir. I shoot many with my custom CZ 455, but 5 in a row still hasn't happened. To your end, I'd say grab the brick of SK, more shooting and it looks like it'll do 1/2" for ya. The thing about "better" ammo, is that it often doesn't shoot any better in a particular rifle just because it is more expensive. I've had Eley Tenex with an ES of 7 FPS for a 5-shot group flip out to the 0.9's, all because of disagreeable barrel harmonics. Run it through a different rifle that's tuned, and it comes dang close to that 1/4" goal ;) What I see in your targets is likely a good barrel that just needs some tuning. Try a bunch of ammo and something will stick, or a little tuning with SK and you're blasting 1/2" all day. Oh, and if you ain't cleaning, you ain't winning :d

Similar built 10/22 here, intent to hunt mostly and sometimes bench shooting. Dlask receiver+bolt+buffer+2x trigger pin+takedown bolt, Kidd single stage trigger+Charging handle(Standard spring), Magpul X22 stock, TacSol X ring 16.5 threaded barrel w/muzzle brake, Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 scope. Don't have one single Ruger factory parts in it. Haven't been to the range yet, will report later.

Yea, Im happy that I found the 1/2" so fast but at the same time. The journey is also fun. Wasnt much needed on this one. Just a jump to the local gun store for ammo and poof there it is lol.

Yea, Im hoping all premium ammo still gives 1/2" its always a kick in the #### when you buy a pricey ammo and your rifle hates it.

I might end up trying a tuner on it to get it down to 1/4". It is threaded so Im sure I can figure them out. Right now I have literally 0 knowledge on how they work other then that they do....

My felts and pull through system will arrive today!
