If you already have a 1911 in 45 ACP would you get a SIG P220?

If you already have a Colt 1911 in 45 ACP... would you consider getting a Sig P220?

What would entice you to get it? Both are single stack magazines, hammer fired.

1911 - SA only
P220 - SA/DA, decocker

1911 will probably has less felt recoil as it is heavier?

Great question!
Add a striker fired .45 to the list, like a Glock or Hudson or M&P.

I have had both. In the end, the P220 is the only one I kept. The absolute reliability, accuracy and easy takedown and reassembly is what made the difference.

I would gladly shoot a 1911 all day and enjoy it but will not own one again myself.

Recoil is comparable with a proper grip. The Sig does feel fatter and the DA pull is a reach if you’re used to 1911s. In SA, even without the SRT trigger, it’s still great.

That is a good point about the ease of take down.

I have a couple of the polymer striker fired already (Walther, Glock and SW) but missing one alloy/steel hammer fired in my collection.

No chance, not even if the 220 was an SAO Longslide. My small hands require single-stacks, and the A1 with arched MSH and trigger relief cuts fits my hand like frame and bones were sculpted around each other. (Then again, do consider that I'm the maximum eligible height for an American horse cavalryman, who are the operators Browning's masterpiece was specifically designed for...)

I am very fond of .45ACP pistols. I have a Norc 1911 [basic but tuned, nice shooter], an M&P45...also a nice shooter and a Sig P227which is just wonderful. My P220 is a 10mm, and I'm thinking seriously about one in .45ACP...probably will happen if I can find one at a decent used price. All of which is my way of saying that you should have both...

Absolutely! Love the P220! Lots of different options available. The models with 5 inch barrels will feel very comparable in terms of recoil to a 1911.

I have a p220 Match Elite and p220 Scorpion love them both. I also have a Les Baer Premier II as well. The Match Elite shoots very similar to the Les Baer and similar groups. If you can find an all steel p220 there is les felt recoil. My p220 Scorpion feels a little more snappy than the Match Elite due to the Alloy Frame. Where are you in Ontario if you are ever Burlington way you can try my P220's

Interesting comparison. LGS here has a P227R Equinox that is gorgeous and fits very well. Yes, it is double stack vs single stack but fits. I have numerous 1911s as well, but there's something about this one that intrigues me..Sure is a pretty gun...

My Euro Sig 220 was my first .45ACP pistol. I bought it over 30 years ago!! My P220 is one of my most reliable and accurate pistols in my stable and it still sees regular range time. The only parts that has been changed on it was the recoil spring and I added some rosewood grips to "pretty" it up. I certainly see no disadvantage in owning both!!

I've had 3 different Sig 1911s (SS Carry, Nightmare, Nitron), and 3 different P220s in .45 ACP. The only two that remain are a P220 Equinox and a P220 SS Elite. They fit me better, I prefer the sight on the Equinox to all of them. I prefer the take down on them by far, prefer the decocker to the safety on a 1911, and I've been shooting DA/SA Sigs since my first pistol (P226). It's what I'm used to and seems perfectly natural. It's all about personal preference. They are both fine platforms, have one or the other or both. I like guns.

I've got a 1911 that I love dearly, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be adding a P220 Legion to the stable.

I can't think of any reason not to.

I say, no. But then I don't care for Sigs.

I have both and say yes to both. Would do again.

Sig P220 and Sam 1911.

The P220 is a better duty gun due to the decocker and DA/SA action. The 1911 has a better trigger that is better for match and target shooting but I never liked carrying cocked and locked or unchambered....

Love both for different reasons.
