Flash hider replacement on an AR15

Hey guys,

I got a Noveske KX3 yesterday and was taking a look on how to change it.

Is it a straight screw off and on job (counter clockwise?) Is there anything I should watch out for? I'm planning on just turning it with some pliers or something .. do I need a special tool to get it off?

Standard RH threads. Don't use pliers - the wrench flats are there for a reason. You are going to have to hold the barrel firmly while the wrench is applied to the FH.

Just for that reason, all of my units got their 'birdcage' or Vortex units put back on.......

The right way to do it is hold the barrel with vice blocks or similar and turn the old hider off anti clockwise with the correct wrench (pliers, Aieeeee, no), then put this one on the same, using the special washer that comes with it. Don't overtighten to the point of stressing the threads too much, but you don't want it coming loose either.

To be quite honest it will eventually melt. There's no stopping it.

Just for that reason, all of my units got their 'birdcage' or Vortex units put back on.......

Don't get me wrong. It's a neat looking piece and helps with the noise short AR's in particular make being so close to the ear but I'm less than impressed with how quickly and in what fashion they go out.

Sweet AR ! mine is heading in the same direction !!

My shortie will be more of a safe queen than anything .. so the noveske will probably be ok on her ...

I'm diggin' the Vortex tho .. I'll have to grab one for my 14.5 !!

I wonder if the original Russian Krinkov brake has the same issue? I think Noveske originally used them with a thread adapter- maybe it was better?

My Noveske started to erode quite quickly as well. I have A2 and A1 flash hiders on the Colts, and just put a Vltor 1st model compensator on a frankengun. It is quite nice, and available here on the forum.
