Reasons to shoot a 270 Winchester?

Ballistics aside, 270 just plain works. Match your bullets to game and conditions, and you have one of the most versatile hunting cartridges in history. If Jack O'Connor was alive today, it'd still be his go-to caliber. Besides, way better bullets now a days...

My favorite reason is because it is pointed at game.
I settled on the 7mm's for most of my purposes but I can see the value of a .270 Winchester and if I was in the market for another rifle a light weight stainless .270 would be first on my list for the simple fact ammo is usually available anywhere game is hunted and it is well capable of tackling most North American game, a 130 TTSX would be a reasonable all purpose load.

there's lots of good bullets for the 270 that will work very well with common twists at the typical hunting ranges most of us shoot. The 270 always has been a very good choice and really does't give up that much to the comparable 280.

....... and FTR, I own a 7x57 and a 280. :)

I agree, the 270 with 130-150gr bullets from a 1:10 works just fine for most things needing done. I do like the fact I could stuff a 180gr Berger in my factory m700 280 (9.25 twist) and it shot well out to 600y. Currently shooting 195gr Bergers from my 8 twist 280 Ackley with great results. Who needs a 270 :)

I have hunted my entire life in central and northern bc. Have taken some long shots, its easy to miss. Hunting conditions are not the same as load development on a bench. Limit yourself accordingly.

The only reason not.to use a 270 is very large moose and bears. Pick one; 270, 30-06, 7mag, 300. Go hunting.
