I purchased a Troy MCS for my M14 off of a CGNer a while back, and have since got it all put together, cleaned, greased, etc. NEaring the completion of the build, I noticed that it was missing the side mount screw that tightens the chassis to the receiver through the hole in the left hand side. I'm calling out to anyone who has this spare screw (by any luck of the draw) or who has this chassis to do a measurement for me to see if I can go source it from a local hardware store. Contacting Troy and their importer Rampart have lead me... well, nowhere. One says it will cost $40 to ship it, the other says it will take weeks to get in, and then told me to go find a replacement in a hardware store. Can't exactly bring this stuff in to test fit it and I'm not going to go buy 2 dozen screws to come home seeing which one works with the length, width, and screw rotation needed.

you won't find that screw in a hardware store. #12- 32 Unef is the actual bolt/thread required in a grade 8 fastener
recently another member here was seeking an arms 18 side screw.... same dilemna.
Troy might be able to send you one (buy two or 3) and and an arms 18 side bolt will also work but ensure there is no protrusion inside the receiver if you go with anything other than the troy side bolt. If Troy can't send you one directly due to export license stuff, try brownells for the side bolt before you look anywhere else but keep the arms 18 bolt idea in the pocket because they will send direct.
I have an original version black troy mcs chassis and though it is a heavy SOB , I wouldn't trade that chassis for any of the current offerings.

Thanks for the info, I'll look around for the ARMS bolt. Troy has said they could send one, but it would be $40.... how I dont know, then the whole issue when they said to go through their dealer Rampart.

I quoted that part above, because you mentioned original version black troy MCS chassis. Has there been multiple variants?

the original troy chassis had a different mounting feature at the forend that was much more robust. Not sure exactly when the switch was made but I've had that chassis for going on 10 years now. From the outside, they appear identical but if you have the mounting plates that slip around the gas system, replacing the gas band plate, that is a gen 2.
The receiver side bolt is the same on both.
