My buddies son took his first deer with a 338 federal ar10 rifle, in Wyoming
If you can find a compatible barrel and bolt and if whichever cartridge you want will feed from an AR-10 magazine and it runs in the same pressure ballpark as a 308 it should work.
I would stick to non magnum calibers for the platform though, the gas system and recoil system are designed for a certain pressure range and a short magnum will probably exceed those parameters. I'd love to see someone do it though if it can be made to work without damaging rifle or shooter.
The further away from 308 you go the harder it will be to tune it to run right.
Forgot to include your quote in the last message....how did you get it down to 7 pounds?
not a complete rifle no. I ordered a receiver set in early july and it arrived a few weeks ago now. I ordered a stag bolt, charging handle and buffer assembly and all that arrived as well.
Just waiting on a barrel , gas tube, gas block and handguard.

That's my post on how I took weight off. Brownells titanium bcg is a much more affordable light weight option than the v7.
Essentially change out the bcg, barrel, handguard and stock. Changing the buffer and spring to the jp captured buffer did save some weight too.
Does anyone have any leads on some really long handguards? I have a 24" barrel on the way. I've been looking at the JP MKIII 17" but its out of stock at RDSC. Would like some more options but I'm having a hard time.
Its a heavy barrel and I'm going to be using a sentry 9 adjustable gas block. Not looking for a slim profile.
Li great I've seen is the TAC 15 from Armalite, or the 20 inch from eBay, very cheap eBay tho

Damn where are you getting these V7 handguards? I wanted one for my lightweight slr and stag builds but only saw them at rdsc and sold out so ended up going Brigand.
You must be the guy who keeps buying them before I can. How do you like them compared to the Brigand? Weight wise they're almost the same but they look more traditional and functional than the Brigand
What bcg do you have in that rifle? How's the balance with the Prs stock vs something like the Sabertube since the rifle is light upfront?
