I cant wait. Should have all my pieces in my hand within the next two weeks. Just have to get a reaction rod ... apparently the folks at Al Simmons had no idea what i was talking about

So did you guys have to buy the export license from Brownells? I'd like to order some parts but that export license is a lot of $.
 
Could get all of the parts minus the barrel without an export permit. Needed multiple orders. Anything 100-500 usd you need to fill out a form, scan, and email back. Also had a code for 20 or 30 usd off if over 200 and shipping is typically 9 usd so worked in favour for multiple orders.

Can get a faxon pencil barrel in 308 or bsf carbon fibre that are already in stock in Canada. The bsf is lighter by a bit but your looking at 900. I have a 308 faxon pencil barrel incoming that I may part with and upgrade to a bsf.

Just waiting on a barrel , gas tube, gas block and handguard.

That's my post on how I took weight off. Brownells titanium bcg is a much more affordable light weight option than the v7.

Essentially change out the bcg, barrel, handguard and stock. Changing the buffer and spring to the jp captured buffer did save some weight too.

Great thanks...mine is weighing in at 10lbs without an optic. I changed the stock and handguard...I’ll look into the bcg and barrel!
 
Does anyone have any leads on some really long handguards? I have a 24" barrel on the way. I've been looking at the JP MKIII 17" but its out of stock at RDSC. Would like some more options but I'm having a hard time.
Its a heavy barrel and I'm going to be using a sentry 9 adjustable gas block. Not looking for a slim profile.

Li great I've seen is the TAC 15 from Armalite, or the 20 inch from eBay, very cheap eBay tho

Good advice in here ! :)

To answer some of the question :

- Why AR-10 and not bolt ?
1. Because I like the ergonomics of the AR and modern rifles better.
2. Because I want to.
3. Because I'll be able to use it in high power matches and engaging targets without having to cycle is way faster (captain obvious would be proud)
4. If I want to switch to another short action caliber (eyeing 6.5 creedmoor for a while) I can just build another upper instead of making essentially another entirely different rifle.
5. As another user said, I'm probably going to hunt solo in spot and stalk manner so if I encounter an aggressive predator I'd rather have something I can fire rapidly without having to manually cycle.

- What gear ?
1. Probably will buy a "barebone" (receivers + internals + BCG) in .308.
2. Switch the trigger for a geissele or another third party to lighten it to 2-3 pounds.
3. Carbon fiber mlok handguard
4. MOE grip
5. Either PRS or another adjustable stock (adjustable length of pull and cheekrise)
6. A Vortex Diamondback with first focal plane looks pretty good to me (FFP are usually way more expensive) and I know how to range as long as I got a reticle with MRAD.
7. A Bushnell TRS-25 at the 2 o'clock position for approximately aligning shots or for close range (you never know, I got within 5 meters of a doe when scouting).
8. Hesitating between a Haris or the new Magpul bipod.

Potentially I might switch the barrel to a pencil profile or, if I feel fancy, to a carbon fiber one (been curious to try these).
 
You must be the guy who keeps buying them before I can. How do you like them compared to the Brigand? Weight wise they're almost the same but they look more traditional and functional than the Brigand

What bcg do you have in that rifle? How's the balance with the Prs stock vs something like the Sabertube since the rifle is light upfront?

The Brigand is lighter by 4 oz. The V7 is way more functional, I will only buy them from now on. Mounting a sling is nicer and installing it is way easier (Brigand you have to line up the barrel nut perfectly).


I just have a DPMS BCG, I'm going to switch it out for a Brownells though, there's no forward assist on it. It balances really nice, I like my rifles with more weight in the rear.

The Sabertube balances nice as well with the Brigand, but the barrel is half a pound lighter.
