Clone/Counterfeit Zeiss Conquest scope?

An acquaintance brought over a rifle for me to "check out" and mentioned the amazing deal he got on the scope. It's labelled on the eye piece "Carl Zeiss (TM), 6-24x50AOMC, Assembled in USA" in gold coloured letters. I can not find a serial number on it. Nor can I find anything on the Zeiss website in either their current lineup, nor in there previous lineups, of Zeiss ever producing a 6-24x50 AO scope. Adjustable for parallax, yes, but not via an Adjustable Objective.
So, thought I would check with others here - I'm thinking there is a good chance this is not genuine product. Zeiss instructions say to call them with the serial number, which I can not see, although I have not removed it from the rings. Could anyone with a genuine Zeiss tell me where the serial number should be?? (On my Leupolds, the serial numbers are engraved on the underside, directly below the elevation turret - on this one there is a round blue sticker saying "Quality, Zeiss, Assured" - incidentally, the sticker is not even close to being centered on the rounded surface on the bottom of the scope turret boss.
And, even curiouser (if that is a word), it has both a "third turret" on left side for parallax adjustment, but also a Objective front that rotates to marked parallax correction distances. Is that even done??
Edited @ 3:25 PM: Ha! What I get for "assuming"!! Not a parallax adjustment turret, at all, on the left side of the turret - it is a red / green reticle switch with clickable intensity settings - puts this one squarely in the "counterfeit" description below, complete with the gold lettering around the adjustable objective sense housing at the front.

Counterfeit Zeiss Scopes

Just sat and watched few people run the price up to almost $400 on a counterfeit Zeiss scope, so I figured I'd post something about it. The item was a Zeiss Conquest 6-24x50 Rifle Scope Illuminated Red / Green Reticle AOMC.
1) Zeiss doesn't make a 6-24 in 50mm.
2) Zeiss doesn't have green illuminated reticles
3) Made in China. Little bit of research showed this scope to sold by Falcon Tactical Gear Co.
4) If the deal's too good to be true. It probably is. Otherwise, research and you might get lucky.

Call Zeiss' customer service line at 1-800-441-3005 for questions regarding potential fakes. I reported this one to ebay, but unfortunately they didn't do anything for the unlucky buyer. At least they may have a case already opened by the time he opens his own.

You can buy those from the factory in china for 60 cad shipped. I tried a few and They are ok if you shoot or 22 or maybe even .223 but anything else will make them lose their zero or worse. Overall on the low end, with all the hassle of mounting and zeroing. You are better of with a 200$ bushnell or equivalent
 
The red/green illumination is always a dead give away for me. The wife's cousin almost fell for this at a gun auction about a year ago. There were 4 or 5 lower end rifles there, all sporting Zeiss glass on them. He called me to see if I wanted him to bid on any for me. I couldn't believe it, so I got him to describe the scopes. When he got to the illumination I knew they were fakes, and told him not to waste his money. Apparently he caused a little bit of a stir, because he talked long and loud about the fact they were fakes, and the auctioneer hadn't made any mention of this.

Well, not all is lost! His rifle is a 22-250 and so far as he can tell, the "clone" works just fine for him - has shot coyotes, etc. He is not a "turret turner" - old school - sight it in and then use Kentucky windage and elevation. He really likes it cranked up to max magnification for popping gophers "way out there". He (and I) are under the impression that genuine Zeiss are $1,200 to $1,500 scopes, and neither of us are the type of people who get to pay 10 cents on the dollar for a "real" thing.
