Has anyone had the thought to modify the 10 shot stripper clips into stubby 5 round clips???Is this ghey(copyright word infringement!) or has the idea struck others besides me??I just figured they might fit better in an ammo pouch...all opinions wanted and welcome..

I've done it and it works fine, as long as you put the right end in first.

Cut the clip in half with a saw or dremel then peen the ends closed. Works like a charm and they don't rattle around on the clip.

Actually if you push hard enough you probably can fit six in the mag.(Yes you legallity nazis can get me thrown in jail now) Try it, it will probably work.

Thanks for the input guys,I'll break out the hacksaw tomorrow and try a few...to each his own, right?

Sure, just get ready to go through some hacksaw blades.

It is legal as the mag will not hold more then five, unless there is something wrong with the mag follower the sixth one will get loaded into the chamber when the bolt closes...try it (at the range) you will see what I'm talking about. :D

Just cut them with a sharp chisel and file or grind the cut edges. They work really well and are a piece of cake to make. The 5 round size seems easier to store in a pocket or pouch than the 10's. After all you get all those free stripper clips you might as well see if these work for you

Just keep in mind that the "free" clips are now being sold for $1 to $2 each in some places...so I wouldn't cut too many. :D

It might seem silly to cut the clips down, but it is my guess is that the people that think that, aren't competitive target shooters! And those that enter a speed match in any shooting discipline with 10 round clips, aren't competitive!!!

I shoot a couple of matches a year where speed of reload is important. I have found that by trimming down the length, crimping one end and painting the crimped end for instant recognition that the SKS can be as fast as my M1Garand or my AR 15A2. If you need lots of ammo on short notice on a fired and movement match, you can put 75 clipped rds in a bandoller or 15 rds in each pocket of an M1 Garand web belt, etc. It has taken me a bit of time to prepare clips for 300 rds of 7.62x39 but my SKS is ready to be competitive.

If you want to be competitive, you will make the effort required. If you don't your timings and performance will give everyone else watching you a good chuckle.

I know of people that compete at timed events with the 10 round stripper clips and have no problems at all. Just have a dump pouch on one side.
