“Oil” around bell of new Leupold scope?

“Oil” around bell of new Leupold scope?

Hey Guys, picked up a couple Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 and upon opening, each had ‘oil’ aound the bell, here’s a pic... Oh, wiped off & seems to be a non-issue, just never seen this before... Thoughts?

My guess would be that its a lubricant when the screw the bell on, it would also act as a moisture sealant.

I would wonder if the seals are good . If oil can seep couldn't nitrogen ( or whatever ) leak ?

That's fairly normal- just wipe it away and you'll be good. It's grease that's seeped out of the threads after installation. They slobber it all over during assembly, and some will always leak out during storage/shipping.

I had that on one of my new Leupold's as well and assumed it was just left over from manufacturing. I just cleaned it up and have never has an issue with the scope.

Deeeeefinitely not coming out of the sealed portion of the scope. Lol imagine expensive glass with goo running down the inside of it

Agreed. When I opened the second scope box, I had a closer look & the 'oil' was just around the bell where the foam packaging was touching it.

Non-issue I am sure, just never seen it before.
