So I'm picking my first pistol, I've usually used my dad's or friends previously, but now it's time for me to buy my own. I'm stuck in the classic question of Sig Sauer P320 vs Glock 17/19. I know all the issues for both from Sigs drop fire to Glock Gen 4 double recoil spring and so on. I'm just looking for advice if I should worry about those issues or is it just the media blowing everything out of proportion. If it helps I'm leaning towards the P320.

The 320 will be around for the next 35 years with copious amounts of support due to the US Army adopting the pistol. The Glock in 35 years will be on it's Gen 15 version of the gun. I would go with the 320 way more versatile due to it's modular concept.

This question is asked frequently regarding different makes of pistols - buy the one that;

a) Feels the best in you hand and when you shoot it - try them both out if you can by renting or going to the range with someone.
b) Has the most options and accessories available for the kind of shooting you intend to do.
c) That you can get the best price on new or used based on your budget and the pistol's condition

Do not hesitate to buy a used gun the first time out. If it doesn't turn out to be exactly what you want your investment was less - if it is what you want permanently you can buy one new later and resell the used one.

Once you been at this for a long time the simple answer will be "Buy Both"

Good Luck

Bill

Sums it up. Try both and buy the one that shoots best for you. Or do like me, buy both that you want and sell the Sig after :p

And every generation will alternate between "revolutionary" finger grooves and a "revolutionary" lack of finger grooves.:kickInTheNuts:

why limit yourself to two models. get out there and explore. Try a few and see what fits you best. I for one was stuck on a model 1911 bought one love it. Broke an extractor during my Black Badge course. Friend had his spare CZ 75. lent it to me for the remainder of the course. Guess what's in my safe now.

Out of these two I'd get a Glock so you don't have to buy it later anyway as everyone has to have a Glock love it or hate it.
Every single person in my office knows that Glock is a PISTOL, not so much about M&P or Sig... Had to buy one myself LOL

Buy the one that you shoot best, for me it's the Glock, for you that's something you have to figure out for yourself. Rent or borrow both to try,, and hell, why not throw an M&P in the mix just for fun, all three are fantastic pistols and it comes down to personal preference, good luck finding out which one works best for you :)

I was looking at another striker gun recently. Was picking between the PPQ, G17 Gen 5, and some others. The G17 felt the best in my hands so I went with that.

You figure the US military will hold on to the 320 for 35 years?

lol

This is actually a pretty smart comment (not sure on 35 years tho, they aren't Canadians these guys). I don't know Glocks enough to know whether the future gen will use the same basic parts or not, but the 320 shall be around very long, due to its recent entry into US service.....are we sure all new ones are drop safe? Any existing inventory in LGS that are still unsafe?

First and foremost, 90% of the issues regarding both models you'll read about on the internet are perpetuated by a bunch of basement dwelling goons that go out to the range twice a year on the nicest of days. The other 10% are professional users, and you'll likely never run your gun remotely close to the levels they will so it's laregely moot.

When it comes to the gun industry, there is such a thing as "too much information".

Why do I say all this? Because most of the information you'll read is irrelevant to 90% of civilian end users, and both designs are more than suitable to your needs, it'll just come down to a matter of your preference.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the P320, not because it's inferior to my Glocks, I just don't really like them.
On the flip side, I use Glocks not because they're the end all be all of handguns they just fit the bill perfectly for what I wanted in a gun.
Best case for you, get out and meet some guys in the community and see if you can't get out and run a few hundred rounds through a variety of guns.
Who knows, you could go in saying "Glock or Sig" and come out the other side with a browning high power.

+1 for the BHP! Nothing but class.

I personally prefer the G17, but it’s just that, a preference. Objectively it’s six of one, half-dozen of the other.
