Looking forward to my opener for Ducks, I have to work all the first week, but the Woody hole is close enough I can get out for the morning shoot, like a kid before Christmas I can barely sleep and it's still 9 days away! Scouted out a few more spots further away, looking forward to seeing what they may produce, good luck everyone!

Two more sleeps until early goose season opener....so in the meantime, I’m killing time taking out some doves and pigeons with one of my favorite guns ever, a Franchi 48AL. Just a perfect day to burn some gun powder and start filling the freezer with delicious meat...

Got out this morning for early goose opener with two good friends and fellow CGN’rs and we didnt see any action. Lots of birds on the water, but nothing near us. We did have plenty of ducks come in, so its looks like a potential great duck opener. I’ll hit the lake again on Saturday with hopes of more action.

Myself and a group of buddies headed out this morning for the goose opener with GRIND EM OUTFITTERS. What a morning..... We had our limit of 60 geese by 10:30am including 2 bands great shoot. These guys are amazing to hunt with. Our group has been successfully hunting with these guys since 2007. If your looking for a professional experience give these guys a call

They are all heart and get the job done, but a lab or chessy is a better choice as a dedicated goose dog.

The new moon cycle certainly helped this past weekend as many more birds where out and about. It didnt take long for the geese to get a quick education on hunting season thats for sure. Doesnt surprise me as the three geese I’ve shot all had old pellets wounds in them. One goose even had a squashed lead .22 pellet from an airgun in its neck. Makes me wonder how many of these birds are living with pellets in them from hunters shooting at them from distances outside of the effective killing range of their shells. In any event, the first goose burgers of the season were delicious....
I had a great solo hunt this morning on the Great Plains. I would of had my limit of 8 but the old guy was a weeee bit rusty with the old shotgun. Maybe the shotshell company put in a few blank loads.

Have bear,deer, boar burgers before but never thought about turning geese into burgers lol.

Lots of different ways to do it and I’ve tried it in many different ways. Here is the recipe I used this time around...
6lbs of goose
4 lbs of pork
2 table spoons of whole fennel
1 table spoon of black pepper
1.5 table spoons of smoked paprika
1 table spoon of salt
Im sure any of the burger recipes you’ve tried in the past will work well with goose. In fact any recipe that calls for ground beef can be substituted with ground goose/pork mix. I’ve done this many times and no one knew any better

I had a great field scouted, and obtained permission from the following morning, but someone who knew the landowner saw me watching the field, found out that I had permission, so they ran out that evening, pushed the geese off of the field, and shot a few that returned. With no field for the morning, I scouted instead, found another field , and we had an evening hunt. Unfortunately, the geese had a day roost nearby, and we only managed eight geese that evening. But it was still good to get out, and I will be scouting for the upcoming weekend.
Temperature at -1, wet snow coming down hard, and we had a great hunt. We had our limits on white fronted geese before 8, then we let them land around our willow blinds for extra decoys. Then the Canadas came, and by 8:30 we filled our limits, with a bonus snow, and were headed home cold and wet. We were so cold and wet, we didn't even take the time to even take pictures.
