Canuck defender

Yeah I have a few, they work well, and with removable chokes can use for hunting, I got a few grouse with one last year, and have played with slugs in it and I'd take a deer at 50m with one

Took it out today and after a few rounds a design flaw is apparent. The action bound up. I had to force the barrel off and the action is stuck. I cut the round out only to find the little tab at the front of the bolt has slipped under the bolt forcing it against the top of the action.

I'll have to watch out for that, I have a defender and a regulator, no issues yet, but time will tell I guess

Any chance it was a cartridge problem rather than a gun problem? Maybe it doesn't like that ammo.

No. Its firearm related. The action is jammed solid have way open. The bolt looks to have come off the rail carrier and is slightly tilted backwards.
Im still waiting on odell engineering to email me a shipping label

Its not ammo. The gun will not cycle. The action is jammed solid. The slide does not move. I removed the barrel and trigger group and it is still not able to function

Odell engineering came thru with a shipping label and it has been shipped back for warrenty. Odell is covering the cost of shipping both ways which is nice
I had called the site sponsor i bought it from and they said theyve never had an issue with a canuck that wasnt cosmetic. The birds head grip on mine was slightly cracked but i can fix that. Anyway ill update when i get it back

Any updates? How is the replacement working out?

It came back in decent time. Been flawless ever since. The inside of the action and barrel extension have been polished. My thoughts are that the ejector broke off the barrel extension. Not 100% sure though. It runs flawless now. I actually really like the gun

Awesome. I'm glad it worked out for you. My only concern is whether the extractor is reliable in the long term - there is no indication to suggest otherwise, but it would suck if it snapped off at an inopportune time. I wonder if it's forged or MIM.

Did you polish the action and extension because they needed it or to break them in quicker? Mine has a fair bit of drag that I assume will smooth out over time, but it would be nice to have it nice and slick before taking the first shot.

If it's the $200 pump action shotgun with the 14" bbl and interchangeable chokes you're referring to no problem after about 200 assorted bird shot, 000 buck and slugs through mine.
Put a serious dent in the local grouse population this fall. I think it says "true north strong and free" or something like that on it. The birds wouldn't be any deader if shot with a $3000 Citori.

Thats what happens when you get a cheap shotgun made in Turkey.

When it comes to shotguns, if it isn't made in Italy or the US I'm not interested.

Don't be so close minded. This is the only failure I've heard from a Canuck. Mossbergs, Remingtons and even Benelli have many documented failures on this board and elsewhere.
One of my 590s has a trigger/safety issue, whereas none of my Turkish guns have ever had a break or failure.

Fair enough, but then you will never shoot a newer Browning, Guerni, Merkel, Sauer, Blaser, Purdey,... which are all well ahead in every aspect of US made guns.
