Anyone tried the Sitka Traverse Cold Weather Hoodie?

Going moose hunting in Manitoba this October.

Worth the $279.00?

It’s a nice piece of gear but it’s basically just a polyester fleece hoody, there’s no secret ingredient with Sitka, great if you can it on sale but nice fleece hoodies that do the exact same thing can be had for much less than $300,
 
If you are going goose hunting, you'll need windbreakers and warmth layers, with a raincoat on the outside. You might not be getting rained on right now, but wait an hour and you will be. And have lots of pockets for the stuff you'll need. Don't forget three or four changes of gloves - nothing will be right for the conditions, until you've tried them all.

I couldn't fathom spending $300 on a hoodie. Jacket? Rain/snow pants? Boots? Fine. Good outerwear is important, if you want to stay dry the only cheap stuff that really works is pvc or rubber... But a freaking sweater!? Last I checked Marks sold good hoodies for a fraction of that price...
 
Try www.thelasthunt.com lots of great outdoor brands like arcteryx, north face, mountain hardware, etc etc. May not be Camo but for a midlayer you can get something 40-60%off. Also underarmour.ca has an outlet section with some good hunting stuff frequently. The thing with kuiu and Sitka is you’re paying mostly for the Camo patterns. I usually only buy stuff if I get a discount on it but $300 for a piece of gear that most likely will last 15 years to a lifetime is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I agree $300 is cheap considering the quality and lifespan of good gear, when it cost a $100 to fill my truck with fuel, it puts things into perspective.

I got rid of all my cheap apparel from CT, Marks, WalMart, etc. It works ok, but want something lighter, more packable, water resistant, better fitting and durable.

I wish Kuiu had outlet stores in Canada or would let retailers carry their stuff. What I really like about Sitka is how well it fits, double/triple stitching, quality zippers, built in hoods with face mask.

Rocky gear is nice but not much cheaper than Sitka/Kuiu/Under Armour.

Big difference for me where I hunt, goose= dry fields 20 minutes from door, nice cozy ground blind, if its raining we stay home.

Our moose trips are fly in up north where the weather changes constantly, fog, snow, rain, sleet, wind and sometimes hot and clear.
 
After a lot of research, shopping and trying on gear I bought the Sitka hoodie, pants and gloves.. Tried it out yesterday hunting and couldn't be happier should have bought it long ago. Well worth the money!
 
I find Mountain Equipment Co-op is great for high quality base/mid/outerwear gear, though not hunting specific. Great deals to be had on their private label stuff like base layers and fleece.

They do, but...They support anti-hunting efforts and had a huge hand in the banning of grizzly hunts out west. I tend to support the companies that do good things for our sport/lifestyle.

Had a huge hand? Lol that I doubt.

While they may have been against the grizz hunt, so were something like 65% of hunters polled and 80% of the general population. The government campaigned on doing something about the hunt, and when they asked the people they overwhelmingly supported a full closure.

I don't agree with the closure, but blaming MEC as a major player is a bit much IMO.


OP glad you're happy with your purchase. You'll have to let us know how water resistant it is.
