Savage Mk II or Marlin Xt-22

Thanks! Hadn't thought about the optic rail

Well the longer (FV model) looks like it comes with the two Weaver style optic mounts too (from pictures). The one piece one on the FVSR just looks more expensive to make??? I got the FVSR just because I wanted something not as front heavy.

I have a savage mark ll and I love it. I have put close to 2000 rounds through it in two weekends. And I have it sighted in for 100 yards for .5" groups and plinks gophers. My little brother has a savage cub and he loves it too. The stocks are very comfortable but that may just be my preference. It's all up to how it feels for you

I have both, I found the XT's sights low and harder to use, Tech Sights fixed that. Great .22, I like that the mags are the same as the 795 with the exception of the Promags. The Mark II is also great, made in Canada is a plus for me! You can get it packaged with a scope for the same price as XT right now.
The Chiappa M1-22 I had but sold, I found it spit back bits of unburned powder since the chamber is open on top, did not care for that -_-

Both of the rifles are great but deas day i shot more my marlin cause it a new rifle my savage have more that 5k bullet in to it and still shot like a new rifle il go with the marlin XT-22 first and the Savage markII

I like the older savage mark2 over the Marlins , but find marlins finish better then the new savages . Shooting wise found the heavy barrel ones shot pretty darn close , normal barrel ones marlin abit better at 50 plus yards maybe because micro groove rifling

OP....what did you end up getting?

Ended up going with the Savage Mk II g. They were easier to get in my area and found one a little cheaper. Have since put scope and bipod on it. Will post pictures tonight!

So much for wanting to shoot irons lol

I have a Mk II and love it. It's a great entry level gun IMO.

I have a savage Mkii heavy barrel, it's been my gopher gun for several years now.

The only complaint that I have, is that when I bought it, it didn't come with a wood stock.

I've been thinking of getting a boyds for mine from day one, but the light weight of the plastic stock keeps me from spending the money as I use mine for hunting sometimes.

I plan to get a heavy barrel model this year though, and it'll either come with a decent stock (some come with boyds stocks from the factory) or ill add one. The plan for that rifle is to make a rifle for rimfire PRS, so the plastic stock won't cut it.

Couldn't resist the sale on Nikon Prostaff Rimfire II at Cabelas. Here are pics as promised,

I got a Savage MKii FV. The factory plastic stock was terrible as the comb was too low and I have more of a "chin" weld than a "cheek" weld.
So, I put it in a Boyds "At-One" stock. I really like this setup with the adjustable length of pull and adjustable comb. I can shoot it and then quickly make adjustments and it fits the kids too.
I topped it with a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16x44mm FFP.
The only issue, which seems to be common, is the fail to eject. Youtube/internet has many examples of how you can DIY improve this issue.
I am just testing different ammo and hope to get out for a Project Mapleseed and who knows, maybe even give a try at the Canadian Rimfire Precision Series.
