....

Also very interested to know.

This is wild speculation but: Is it possible the 4th gen glocks we've been getting are the end of the gen 4 stock from Glock? I might be off with my timeline, but we essentially got "Canadian" Gen 4 Glocks as the rest of the world was getting Gen 5 Glocks.
Rather than them sit on a bunch of stock that has to compete with a newer generation, maybe it was easier to stamp a leaf on the remaining stock and ship it to us and we all act as if it's a new product?

If that's the case, it may be a strategic move on Glocks part to wait as long as possible before getting Gen 5 here.

The whole Canadian market represents less total guns than Southern California. I don't think they're dumping strategic reserves of guns onto Canada, or delaying introducing new pistols to this market until the old stock is depleted. It's probably not worth the hassle.

It's nice that they introduced a model specifically for us, or were convinced by Glock Canada to do so, though.

I'm waiting for a Gen 5 G34 with front cocking serrations, MOS, and a coloured frame. That's the pinnacle for me. It will likely never be introduced.

I don't know for certain, but here's my thoughts.

Glock 19's as a whole were always difficult to get, because Glock for the longest time never offered a factory Canadian legal option until the gen 3's with threaded barrels came along. Then they were plentiful. Same thing with the gen 4's, until the offered the gen 4 Canadian. Before this, importers had to eat the cost of a second barrel and hence why 19's were 1000 bucks or more way back when.

With how quickly the 19X made it into Canada with a factory legal barrel option, I'm fairly confident Glock has its eyes open to our market, even though as others have said it is small. If Glock looked at us as "they're only the equivalent of SoCal", they would have never given us the gen 4 Canadian option nor the 19X.

I don't know the compatibility, but is the 19X not a gen 5 19 top and a gen 5 17 bottom? So in theory, is the 19X not just a factory Canadian legal length, Glock 19 barrel? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if that's the case I'd imagine you'll be seeing gen 5 19's by next year.

Shot one today in the US, as well as the 19x. I have to say I liked the overall feel of the 19x, but I shot soooo much better with the 19 Gen 5. It's just a shame that we can't get them with normal barrels.

Actually, I had another recollection.

The new Gen 5's all share the same barrel/locking lug design, so a gen 5 G17 barrel will now fit and function on a gen 5 G19 unlike all the previous generations.

Atleast so I recall.

the 19X is using the Gen5 barrel.
so if they wanted to they could just put those barrels into a Gen5 G19 and release them up here in Canada.
they have already stated that they will be releasing the 19X barrels for sale individually to Canada later this year so id imagine the Gen5 19 with Canadian barrel would be the same time, or at least that would make sense.

this is from the Glock Canada guy:

The barrel from the G19Gen4 (the one with the maple leaf on the slide) is different that the G19X and they are not compatible. The G19X is a Gen5 pistol and as such has the new GLOCK Marksmanship barrel.

Anytime you have a question … don’t hesitate.

and also this

Thanks for your inquiry and support of GLOCK. We are not yet producing standalone 106 mm G19 barrels but plan to later this year or at the latest early in 2019.

As I suspected, so Glock USA already has the tooling and ability to make them, I can't see it being long before the 19's show up.
I'm actually rather surprised we saw the 19X first.

im kinda thinking that Glock made a bunch of the 19X in anticipation of getting the US military contract, or at least started making them and then they where sitting on a bunch of the supplies for them which of course they now had no need for, so they switched gears and pushed them on the civilians.
i say this because it seems like they are kicking out a BIG number of these guns and a short amount of time.

just my black helicopter spotting for the day.

G34 Gen5 is my next pistol purchase. Been looking at it since IRG has had it on their US site. Just can't justify it quite yet with the current exchange rate.

My next Glock will be a Gen 5 19 CDN. My uneducated guess would be a spring 2019 announcement. Their are still new G19 Gen 4 CDN available, while the 19X is sold out, at Rampart, at least.
