Your favorite rifle/caliber for moose/elk hunting ?

Deer, Elk, Moose all wind up in my freezer with my trusty old 308. Have been told by a few folks you can't hunt elk or moose unless you have a magnum and I just nod and listen then go out and fill my tags.

All my father ever used was a 30-30 Marlin 180gr- deer/moose/bear.

Primary is my .375 Ruger Alaskan in a McMillan stock shooting 250gr TTSX.

Secondary is my .300 WSM Winchester Classic Stainless in a McMillan stock shooting 175gr LRX.

I’ve taken moose with both and so far it’s been a shot deal each time.

1/2 the moose I've taken and probably 60% or more of the deer have been with the lowly .303 british.
it ain't a contest ;)

Whichever rifle is my current favorite; or my ever trusty 7x57 ruger. (The last four moose fell to that one) Other wise a few to my Husqvarna .308, a couple with my .270, and one with a Husqvarna 7 rem mag. This year plan to use my .303 savage :)

Personally I used a 300winmag for decades as my elk rifle in the mountains, wonderful calibre with true, reach out and kill it capability; very, "sharp" kick compared to the 338 IMHO. I originally went 300 as I figured the 338 might be, "too much"(bought my 300 when 19). Personally after buying a 338 I'd say the opposite. Again, personally, the 300 isn't bad, but it's, "sharp" compared to the 338 if that makes any sense.
As a qualifier, recoil doesn't seem to phase me much but a 300 target shooting can make my shoulder sore if you don't hold it right, "once" where the 338 and stuff like my 450 marlin doesn't seem to ever have that effect.
Could be just me, too, or maybe I'm just getting old.

a 375 will just give you a little push nothing to compare to a 300 or 338 ... put aside the 340 ...

For close in swamps and willows id carry my sxs 4570
For general hunting bush and cuts and logging roads id carry a 458wm shooting 400gr woodleighs at 2400 fps. Shoots flatter than youd expect. If watching over ponds and marshes id carry a 300wm with 180gr trophy bonded tipped. I generally carry one rifle and pack another on my back
Once i finish my 416 taylor itll be my main gun and if tey sell in canada id like to try a 35 whelan g2 outfitter from traditions for a backup

Savage axis in 270win.

I want to get a lightweight 7mm08 whenever I can afford it (leaning towards a Kimber hunter or howa alpine mountain rifle) but til then my 270 is my do-all rifle.

Browning BLR '81 stainless takedown in 308 Win.
Usually 1 shot kills on moose.
Of course when we hunted moose with the old pre 64 Win 94 in 30-30 it was pretty near always 1 shot kills.

300 RUM. Because I was young and impressionable when they first came out and had to have 1. I've taken several mule deer and black bears with it as well as Elk.
