Your favorite rifle/caliber for moose/elk hunting ?

I use a 338 Win Mag/ Rem 700 Stainless Synthetic DM (1996ish) / Bausch and Lomb 2.5 x 10.

Pros- accurate, good hitting power, stainless is nice for damp conditions, 2.5 power handy in the woods, DM very convenient.

Cons- brutal recoil, expensive ammo, heavy rifle.

Got a good deal on it at Reliable Guns many years ago when living in B.C., would likely buy a 300 Win Mag next time.

I can't call myself an elk hunter, only killed 7 of them, more of a deer hunter. However, last autumn, (2017) I killed a bull elk with my Blaser R8, chambered for the 7mm Rem. Mag. I topped the rifle off with a Meopta Meostar 3x12x56, 30mm tube, illuminated reticle...........a 300 yard shot, prone.

My son uses a Cooper Model 56 chambered for the 7mm STW for moose.

I havn't hunted either moose or elk but I bought a Browning blr in 308 with a Leupold vx3 scope for a big game rifle. I'm also eyeing a Browning x bolt hell's canyon long range in 6.5 CM.
