Model 1891/59 Carbine — existing M1891/30 rifles that were cut down to carbine length. Little is known about them. Some collectors are generally suspicious of this so called "91/59", and feel it may have been produced for commercial sale by arms importers in the United States and Canada. There is growing evidence that the 91/59 carbine was made in the Soviet Union for reserve military forces and for militia forces during the 1950s.

i also found this...
M91/59s are cut down from Izhevsk and Tula M91/30s and some are "sanitized".
what does sanitized mean?
thanks

maybe like the Finnish 'sneaks' Mosin-nagants made up from parts with the serial #s and identifying markings erased, to get around the treaty they had with the Russkies in the postwar years. Regards FT.

Books, Books, Books, is the name of the game. Buy a gun, buy a book. The story of the 91/59 can be found in Terry Lappins book on Russia Mosin Nagant arms. It is a 25.00 book available at Milarms or any one line book dealer. You have to buy the books to go with the guns......
