Gopher Trip 2018! **warning, photos of dead gophers included**

Thanks guys, it was the highlight of my year..in spite of the lower #s.

Nice thread thanks!

And glad the air B and Bs were gun friendly lol

^lol...so were we. Wouldn't leave guns locked in the truck, but wouldn't bring them into a private house without the owners consent either. Glad it worked-out so well. The owners weren't farmers, but the property was rural...so I naturally offered the opportunity to try the guns, see what we were using, etc. They declined, but appreciated the offer. Just chilled-out Albertans. :)

I certainly could, but really what would one charge? .

$1 per day..?

I'd love to do a Canadian gopher shoot, but... Man is our country big.. It would be one helluva drive.
From where I am it's closer to go prairie dog shooting in Colorado...

best hunt I bagged just over 900 gophers. Between the 150 rounds out of my first .204 and the rest being .22lr, my eyes and body were destroyed the next day. Dehydration, some sunburn, shooting without a long enough sunshade, but 2016 was a banner year for the whistle pigs. We are blessed with some pretty big 1.25lbs plus gophers, although most bulls we shot were under that figure.

I believe there are guided hunts south of the border. Shooters on both sides of a wagon, move to another area when one patch is clean.

i like that idea....however a patch is never clean unless a predator (badger) goes in and destroys (defecate), digs up the whole tunnel. Gophers have known to move back even after a good kill or poisoning. It seems after a vicious predator goes in there is no return. Bad thing about a badger though they leave on hell of a mess with close to an 8" or bigger hole and dirt everywhere

in the areas i am in, the guiding would be free however the farmers in some cases may want a small compensation if there is a crop...or accidental dispatch of livestock which has know to happen (horses mistaken for cow moose)....plus your accommodations and food

'Lots of outfits offering paid hunts... I've done it twice. It's quite expensive considering it's pests/vermin you're going after, but... There's zero time spent/wasted on finding land to shoot on and the outfitter, at least the one my buddy and I used provided a (trailer/ATV)shooting platform and benches. They would also spot for you...
I recall the first trip when our guide would point out a 'dog... "He's right over there.. 'bout 100 yards out..5 yards left of that Yukka bush..

I remember thinking... WTF is a yukka bush..?.. What does a yukka bush look like,,?
