Hunting Rangefinders?

hey fellas, im chasing a cheaper version range finder which will always give me a reading to 500meters............ ?
can anyone help out?

i use a ol bushnell an depending on how cold it is in the morning, the battery wont put out an it wont read if cold, or into the fading/brightening light in AM and PMs, so i need to upgrade, i seldom shoot 400m but will need to know 500 or better but not needed for 800m etc... just need to range if im A in range or B out of range.


any one got any models to look for and what is Chances of Finding a 2nd hand one for good price , shipped to Aus?
anyone willing to part with one?


for reference , Brand new Leupold RF are RX650 $ 350-380 aud
the RX850 around $ 450-480
then the decent bushnell and others are in the $500 class?

Do you know of any other good little units

Have you tried lithium batteries in your current range finder? Non lithium batteries die fast in cold.
 
I know you're only looking for a 500y unit but after having range finding binos, I'll never go back. They are more expensive but it's so nice to only carry one thing and have the benefit of both. If theres one thing I wont go hunting without its these. My particular set is bushnell fusion 1 mile but most of the bigger companies make them now.
 
Iff'in you don't wish tuh chase gawlf bawls up and down trees'n chit, a pair
of basic Leica range finders would sewt you swell.
I have an earlier version of the 1200's and they arrrr the gattoes jammies.
Only settings are a dial to tern to go frum meters tuh feet oar visey versy.

These should vetch around the $400 mark + - in the EE when they show up.

No eye-deer what freight to Down Under would be.
 
I have the newest Bushnell and it sucks in any kind of shadows. Have an older Leica and works great but takes two hands so sucks for archery hunting. Just sold a Nikon that was plain terrible. Think I’ll try the Vortex next.

I think the battery you’re referring to is a CR2 which was always short lived in the old Bushnell rangefinders.

RE range finding Binos, i seldom reach for the Rangey but at times i use them, so im happy with two units! the price is a put off fo sho :D
will keep shopping around an see what i can find

a friend from next town over was selling a redfield 600 rangey for $200 initially, they rrp $450 here.... then this morning i seen it on facebook for $100........ guess what.
new rangey on the way fellas :D

so happy days there an for 500-600m no worries
 
I wouldn't trust a used unit unless I could try it out first. Try it on a few known distances first, then after ranging a target, take 4-5 steps backward and see if the RF reads/ shows the small increase. I've been with guys that have ranged a target, then tried to repeat the test and the RF showed 3-4-5 vastly different readings. Not good.

i know the dude an hes an its history , it would be lucky to have been used in a hunt LOL

i asked him if he goes outside an can pick up a tree at 500 ill take it. ha ha

$575 2nd hand down here, one for sale.. a bit out of my league. if this one isnt adequate il sink heaps on a rangey, but im hoping the Raider will be fine :)

How bad do you guys in Oz get screwed over on import taxes and duties?

Were I looking, in your boots, I likely would be hitting ebay and searching out of country as much as possible.
Either by searching worldwide, or by using the other country's basic ebay site.

The US is only fit for getting non-gun/optics related stuff from, but I have had great luck buying stuff from the UK, as well as a couple different Euro countries.

Hope the Redfield makes you happy. Sounds like a heck of a deal if it works at all.

I picked up a used Leica 800 a few years ago, for cheap. Works well enough that I have not been feeling the itch to change it out, and uses common 9v batteries too.

I did the used Leica 1200, but paid fair market value.
No regrets, but I haven't ranged the 1200 distant as claimed.
You make 800 y/m trev?

9v battery? That's a lot of weight compared to the cr2...

OP you guys get hosed on this sort of thing, I just checked the exchange rate and it's only 1.07AUD for $1cad. I just bought a nikon range finder that claims up to 1300yds and only cost me $300+tax new. (on sale, $419 regular price)

A sig kilo 850 is also $299 new, and the 1250 is $469... And that's not even on sale.

I saw plus or minus a couple yards ranging a 900+ yard tree, off my deck in Cold Lake. The tree was beside the marina, and pretty well isolated from any other stuff.

Other than to scan a couple or three decent reference points when I am parking my bum on a seat to wait, I don't otherwise use it much. Works well enough for my needs. Better, really.

Yeah, positively crippling, that extra weight, .lol!

But available absolutely everywhere.

A hunting partner found that out trying to find batteries for his spiffy new range finder, in a Northern Alberta town.
