Hello all I have made the decision to switch over to BH 209. Now that I’m researching loads. I’m seeing that volume loads are different then weighed loads. I reload for rifles so I have scales and such. What is the best way to start? I’m also seeing the 120 volume load is like 84gr weighed load. Any insight will be very helpful. And yes I have the 209 breach plug and I’m shooting a cva optima v2 26” barrel and shooting 250gr barns tmz saboted bullets

Iceman has it right, get a volume measure. Good luck with Blackhorn, I tried it and got very poor results. I went through a can and a half and it seemed to work fine, but a nice buck walked in front of me and the load would not fire. I went back to the range and tried a few more shots and it shot good. I then fired the same volume of triple 7 and the bullet impacted 6" higher and with a lot more recoil.
 
I like, and have had good luck with Blackhorn 209, but it is damn expensive IMHO.

I weigh my charges & load 'right in the middle' of acceptable powder charges.

I use it and load right in the middle also. 90 by volume and I believe its 70 by weight. I do it by weight cause it's faster for me in the rcbs chargemaster. There are only 2 approved primers for bh209. I use the federal. Keep the breech plug channel clean. I clean mine after the season to like new condition. The fouling in the primer channel on the primer side needs to be removed with a drill bit by hand. I've never had a problem with it igniting perfectly. Shoots an honest sub moa in my tc. I've left the muzzleloader loaded for 3 weeks and no issues. It is not quite as corrosive free as they say. It will not attract moisture and start rusting but if you happen to get some water on there it will start hard and fast.
 
I just started using it myself.

I am experimenting with Parker Ballistic Extreme 275.

I started @ around 79 grains (weighed/scaled) because all my research indicated weighed charges were more consistent.

I am using CCI Mag primer.

So far this load has been producing 1.5 to 2 inch groups @ 100 yards and around 2050 fps in an CVA Accura V2 LR 30" barrel....still want to fine tune load especially after I purchased the proper "spin-jag" to seat high b.c bullets like Parker so tip doesn't get deformed.

I was busy with Archery Elk and Archery Moose so haven't had alot of time to get back out.

I would also like to try some WhiteHot pellets....just for convenience factor.

Read the powder can warning. T7 is approx. 15% more potent than BP. Found that out the hard way as well. Better than Pyrodex in my experience, still doesn't rival BP.

Note: Triple Seven is a high energy product designed to provide the muzzleloading hunter with higher velocities when used in the same VOLUME as blackpowder. To duplicate a blackpowder load velocity using Triple Seven, you must decrease the powder charge by 15%. Muzzleloaders using a 150 grain max charge should use a maximum of 130 grains Triple Seven.

I was comparing triple 7 with Blackhorn not black powder. I have been shooting muzzleloaders for over 30 years, not a newbie.
 
if you don't want to clean between shots get good groups and have a gun that is easy to clean blackhorn all the way .. if you want to use your scale to weigh charges ,,80 by volume is 56grains 90 is 63 grains 100 is 77 grains 120 is 84 grains grains are weighed charges ,,, blackhorn 209 is the only powder you can weigh on your grain scale ,,,
