The MG34 Repair and Troubleshooting Thread

It's possible that maybe the recoil spring is binding a bit. Did you try to remove the metal spacer on the end of the spring and see if it helps?
It could still be dragging against the ejector plate too. You could check it by taking the ejector plate off and paint the underside with a paint pen then put it together and cycle it and see if it's dragging

Also how many rounds total do you have through the gun? They need a good hundred or so to smoothen out
The PPU stuff is good and should work out fine, save your brass and get set up for reloading!

Good advice.
Painting the ejector pin to check for interference on the back of ejector plate too maybe. I've put about 160 rounds through it so far.
It has 80 rounds before this problem. Then I polished the receiver to remove a sticky spot, and now 80 rounds with this problem.
I really need to give it a good look over to find out why it's sticking.
I drilled my booster cone out to .450". Maybe that's slightly too big, and doesn't cycle the bolt far enough back and it hangs up?
At any rate this requires more investigation.
Thanks for the advice.

It's possible that your booster cone could be too big. The ammo the Germans used in the war was much hotter then what we have available
On my gun I tried a few bigger booster cones and the one was drilled a bit bigger then the 11mm that is called for and I was having cycling issues if I rapid fired the gun, shoot slow and it was ok
I reload my ammo and found it works best with the 9mm booster that TNW supplies with the gun
One thing to try is to get some s&b 8mm ammo . I believe it's loaded to the European specs which is hotter then the PPU ammo
I tried some in mine once and the felt recoil seemed harsher

Fellow MG34 Enthusiasts

I just got an email from Wolverine advising that their importer can’t get licensing for MG34 replacement parts and as a result all outstanding orders for TNW parts through Wolverine are being cancelled.

So, as we already know, we’re really in our own up here! I had a spare bolt on order, though I have recently put one together to have a spare from parts sourced here on CGN.

Thanks for the update :) Lucky for us Marstar has a few parts, I encourage everyone to get a couple spare sears while they still are in stock :)

North Sylva strikes again! No big surprise though

To clear things up
I repair tnw guns, there is some technology that is being worked on shared with tnw that i cant openly discuss here
Which will improve function of these guns

Everything else im more than happy to help a lot of these guns its a case by case basis no 2 receivers are the same
Pming me ensures i see your concerns and i can properly address your problems in depth ie texting photos and videos etc way easier than using the forum for a personalized response and if it needs more attention arrangements can be made to address these issued

Guys i just want to help here so to get back on track
Yes i agree most people dont understand basic theory of op on this firearm and that is one of the largest root problems here:
60%of these guns the ejector timing is incorrect
30% incorrect firing pin spring tension
10% misc;
incorrect booster size
Worn sears
Elongated pin holes
Flattened rollers
Dead triggers the list is long
My trigger after tuning is approx 9lbs

Ammo is another big culprit with these guns if you dont want grief give up on shooting surplus and use privi partisan 196gn fmj
Bolt caming surfaces should be thoroughly greased with moly bedenium grease

Slso have tricks for prelonging sear life
Edited : i will outline everything in an additional post

I don't know why you would think helping guys out is profiting from their misery? Greygoose has fixed several MG34's for me and a 1919. He diagnosed them quickly and knew which parts to replace which saved me money instead of me replacing a bunch of stuff that was still good fumbling around trying to get the guns going. Also after his work on my mg34 the trigger pull is a hundred times better

Help Is free, I do it all the time. Guys that profit from it are just greasy ! Heck Ive given away tons of free small parts on this forum, lent out specialty tools and even had guys come to my house so I could put together guns for them.

Remember the enemy is N.S in all of this, They are the ones that sold these unsafe MG34's that had full auto issues.

Greygoose is a good guy, if he is working with TNW to come up with a better system to fix these guns properly then that's great and I look forward to whatever solution they come up with
As far as sharing info to others on an open forum I have no issues doing that as I learned a lot from people doing just that. I hope that any advise that I have given has helped on the issues with the mg34. I don't know everything but will help when I can
The 1919/m37 guns I don't know a whole lot about unfortunately but they are pretty reliable out of the box
