Bore scratch/score

Bought maverick 88 on sale. 28" vent rib barrel has scratch/score right after choke thread. Is it safe to shoot?
should I get some sandpaper on the dowel and polish it?

They look deep. You would have to do a A LOT of polishing. How long are the gouges roughly?

one that is rough is maybe a couple inches. but u can see slight symmetrical scoring through the whole length of the bore.
I meant only to polish rough area

If that was new like that send it back. They are more than just scrapes IMO
That barrel should be checked with some ultrasonic gear if you have any friends that do NDT testing

A quick way to find out if they're cracks or not is to wipe some gasoline on the out side of the barrel over the cracks. If they're cracks then they'll weep gas after the surface is dried off.

Personally I think they're too straight to be cracks, more likely machining marks.

They're reamer marks. Notice how there are 8 of them perfectly equidistant? Somebody at the factory withdrew the reamer without the barrel turning, leaving the marks.

Only way to know that for sure would be to find out the hard way, which is inherently risky. And not blowing up the first time doesn't mean it wouldn't blow up the second.

Depends on how deep and how far back towards the breech the scoring goes. Last 10” inches of the barrel the pressure is pretty low.
