Hi guys,

Im kinda lost as to what I should do here. A number of months ago I sold a rifle to a well known CGN member deal went through smooth except for the tranfer. Its been over 6 months and Im getting calls from the CFAC stating this guy has not called in his end of the transfer and Im legally responsible.
I have sent him a PM and hope he will answer me back but Im wondering what else I can do? Do I get the RCMP involved?
I sent the rifle before I got all the legal paper work confirming the transfer, thinking I could trust him to do his end of the transfer, now I have a rifle registered in my name floating around B.C:mad: This guy has thousands of posts everyone knows him he seems a decent fellow and by no means do I want to drag his name through the mud or start anything but a I need to watch out for myself.
Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

Cheers!!

I've bought about 30 guns off people in the last couple years and only twice have I had to phone the CFC because everything was already taken care of for me. Once I bought a gun off someone on here and I had no idea the transfer wasn't completed until several months later the CFC contacted me requesting additional info. A quick phone call to them and that's all it took.

give him a bit of time he could be away on holidays or any other reason.it also could be a mistake on the CFCs part as well

I had a guy leave his en for over 6 months... close to a year.

anyway, he was just being lazy.

his was a deal that happened in person but the cfc was closed at the time.
He was a friend of a friend, a few phone calls later and all was good.

Six months!? Do you have proof of delivery?
This could be a problem - you delivered the rifle before the transfer had cleared, you don't have the rifle, and it still registered to you. Can you phone the buyer? Registered letter? PM? Email? You need to get this sorted out.

Post his CGN name...that is what usually brings the deadbeats to the surface............

Screw being polite...6 months is a long time to wait...you are very patient....6 days is ample for most people....then there are guys like me....6 hrs is pushing it ...................

6 months!!!!! That's pure nonsense.

If he ain't responding to PMs or phone calls, then I would certainly consider a post to be appropriate (but be polite); it should get his attention if he is indeed a regular here.

You have far more patience than I would have.

I do realize Its my own fault for sending the rifle before the CFAC sent me a confirmation letter of the transfer. I thought id send the rifle knowing he was a reputable buyer/seller but now I wish I hadnt gone that route.

Im going to give him a chance to get this cleared up, if not it will go to the public and to the mods.

Dude, I think you should wait for a response before you get your panties in a knot. :)

I did a transfer back in February with another CGN member (to me) called in the transfer, and it didnt take. I waited for my Reg slip, and it never showed... 2.5 months later, I called in to find out the transfer was never completed even though I had a TAN and operator name... (I ask for both)

Might be a CFC #### up, or somoene forgot.
Rather than start a pissing match over nothing, wait for a response before going public.
There could be a very good explanation for it, and you've jumped to conclusions rather than waiting for a response. Good reputible guys usually stay that way... I'd give them an opportunity to explain...

I had a seller do the same thing, and not complete a transfer on me...
I got a letter from the CFC, and called him on it... sure enough 10 minutes later it was done...
He was a busy doctor, and it slipped his mind. IMHO, a human mistake

One way to look at this is: -- With him not completing the transfer makes the gun still yours. send a PM giving him a week to put this away or send your gun back. The RCMP would probably pick it up for you if he still wants to be clever.

The problem here could be: your most likely responsible for whatever deeds are down with this gun, being it's registered to you. So don't be afraid to get firm with this fellow. He's showing a lack of respect for you by not completeing the transfer to himself.

Like I said, give him a week with no response -- go get your gun. I wouldn't give him his money back either. If you feel bad about that, just relist it for sale and pay him what you feel is fair when the gun sells.

I think the important thing here is that you ensured that the buyer had a valid firearms licence when you sold the firearm. It is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure that the firearm bought is registered and this takes place when the buyer completes the transfer. Who knows, the buyer could have died, become disabled, let his licence expire or just plain forgot about it. Perhaps it would be a good idea to call the guy by phone - at least you don't have to worry about leaving evidence trails against you on CGN.

If you did your part, he paid you and you sent the rifle you are done. Tell the CFC who he is when you sent the rifle.

Them getting a hold of him has nothing to do with you.

you need not wait for the letter , just a phone call to CFC would do.

they'll say the transfer is approved and go ahead and send it.

I think that you need to really try a little bit harder. I'm under the impression that you only sent one PM? I would try another PM, a direct email if you can. If that doesn't work, then a registered letter with a clear a definite response deadline. I wouldn't bother thinking that posting his name here or telling the mods is going to get you anywhere. When ONE PM, ONE email and ONE registered letter fails, then it's ONE call to the RCMP. I would give 5 working days for all of this no more. Some people need to take this just one wee-bit more seriously.

Although I agree with your statement somewhat, I think you're still on the hook. Yes, you received your money and yes you sent the rifle, but what if the CFC determines that the buyer should not be in possesion of a firearm? Ultimately, it's up to them to determine when and if the transfer is complete.

Save yourself the headache and call them back to confirm a completed transfer.

This happened to me also, from a very well know guy here on CGN. I was on my final notice from the cfc when he finally transfered it. If its the same guy I think he will transfer it when he gets your pm, from the number of deals he does he probably forgets a few now and again.

He has had 6 months to do this....you think he hasn't noticed he didnt get his transfer notice and new reg. card????BS.....high time you got P*ssed off and leave him a note on CGN......no answer, then have the mounties go get the rifle. Thats the only way to deal with it.

That's the problem with internet sales. Dont mail the gun until the transfer is thru.

Ive made the same mistake, never again.

If the buyer goes and does something stupid with the rifle, and it is in your name, they will hang you to dry. Dont mess with this situation. Do something right away.

Dont worry about offending someone here. Some guys just need a slap to get them going.
