I said I wouldn't jump on the new Canadian product bandwagon but I could not resist with this one.
Picked up a like new 180c off a fellow gun nut on the EE
I was a huge fan of the original 18 design and also the huge potential of the greatly simplified and ar15 parts crossover of the 180b
All around this rifle is a facking home run. Im beyond impressed with it. Finally a simple, affordable, NR, rugged utility 5.56 rifle. Well made. Very simple and great improvements made while keeping costs down.
The only issue I'm noticing is that mine is picky with some mags. The plastic chunky hera ones work. My 5/30 stanag mags work. My lar15's though...seem to not sit high enough in the mag well. The bolt will ride right over the top of a round or catch it but butt the tip of the projo just below the feed ramp and stick.
If I push up on these mags it doesn't like and rack the action, it will chamber. Same with my old school Colt 5/20 mags
It's a bit of a kick in the #### as even my old beat to s**t 180b fed from any mag you put in it.
Anyone else have similar issues?

Yup LAR mags suck.

The MFT polymer 10 rounders work really well (especially in your rifle :p )

Lol
I will have to look these up.
The lar15s were dynamite in all my ar15s over the years.
This small hiccup aside, this may be my all time favorite rifle now.
It's about exactly what I've been dreaming about for over a decade in all aspects.
Well done Kodiak/Wolverine honestly. ####ing home run. Future models will only get better as the design developa and evolves.

Lar mags have been fine in mine.

It's very close to working in mine.
If the window for the mag catch was cut 1/8th of and inch higher it would be cycling with them no doubt about it.
It sucks to have to now go chase down new 10 rounders at 30 bucks each with tax and shipping when I already had about 10 of the lar15s which have worked in every stanag rifle ive owned over the years

Can't you slightly modify the LAR mags?

Even though I know you shouldn't have to

Is your chambered in .223 Wylde or just straight up .556 nato?

Its the wylde chamber.
It chambers and extracts like a champ to be clear. The accuracy is also impressive.
Like I said zero issues with the hera mags or the 5/30 pinned stanag ones or old 5/20 pinned colt mags/all other mags I have.
It's just the LAR15 10 round pistol mags solely that sit too low and don't feed.
The projo jams up under the feed ramps ie it doesn't make it to the feed ramps because it's sitting too low. Bolt stuck back with the cartridge tip jammed perpendicular just under the feed ramps. That's IF it catches a round. Some of the mags don't sit high enough to pick up a round at all. Bolt rides over the top.
Slight upwards pressure on the bottom of the mag makes it rise 1/8th of an inch and then the rifle cycles no problem as long as upwards pressure is maintained.
I guess I'll have to sell the LAR15's and track down some of these MFT's.

I'm glad you posted this, I was going to ask about it myself. I just got my rifle and have not fired it yet, but I loaded up a couple dummy rounds to test function. Same experience, with my E-Lander metal 10 rd mags the rounds sit too low and the tips jam.

I'm not sure if this is an issue with the rounds not sitting high enough in these mags, or if the mag is not sitting high enough in the gun?

Hera mags are perfect.

I'm glad I have not bought a bunch of the wrong kind of mags yet.

The poly IMI LAR mags I have don't work in the WK 180 I have, the metal LAR mags I have work just fine as does a factory M&P mag. With the IMI mags inserted the action will not close or open, loaded or empty.

Then what is the f*****g issue? My rifle is on its way, should be here next Tuesday or Wednesday

I expect all LAR, MFT, Beowulf mags etc etc etc to work flawlessly, I'll put 500 rounds Down range with a variety of mags next weekend

Then another 500 the following weekend, I will suffer thru this if need be , I cross my fingers and hope for everything to work first time around!

"Wolverine states 1000 round break in" and every mag/ammo will work flawlessly.......if it doesn't, it keeps going back till it works with every mag/ammo.

I can tell you 100% that it's not going to be resolved by a "break in period" with my rifle.
The rifle is extremely reliable if the magazine type sits high enough in the magwell. It functions flawlessly.
It just seems that depending on the make/model of the mag and how/where the mag release latch window was cut in the lower on each specific rifle, some mags don't sit high enough to allow it to feed.
I'm assuming this is clearly not a one off issue.
Now I'm seeing that the LAR15 mags seem to work in some rifles from posts on here......

So what guarantee does anyone have that if they drop money on alternate magazines they will even work in the rifle and they didn't waste their money? As it seems that rifle to rifle variances are causing this issue.
I'm starting to think I understand why they threw in the hera mags with every single rifle. If this issue became apparent in field testing of rifles off the production line but they knew they worked best with the cheap hera brand ones.....

Both of my wk’s Work flawlessly with metal Lar 15 mags.

The MFT's work great in mine but RRA LAR mags do not. In my case the tip of the round seems to fetch up on the front of the mag and does not strip off cleanly, I need to Dremel a notch in it. It does this on my other AR's as well though.

All other 5/30 mags work fine.

It's the lack of consistency I am seeing that bothers me.
If they consistently didn't work with specific types of mags it would be easy for consumers to simply avoid brand X right
But now who the hell know's what brand/type will/wont work from rifle to rifle.
It just sucks that the people who purchased them now have to go through expensive trial and error mag testing to find which ones may or may not work.

LAR mags are the only issues I've had, but after mod'ing the front of the mags they all work.
I have found that the LAR mags when loaded to a full ten rounds impart too much upward pressure and are difficult for the bolt to strip the first round on feeding, but this is due to the week recoil springs and not a fault of the LAR mags.

Can you post of pic of one of the modded mags Sir?
I'll give it a go. I'm no stranger to tinkering.
I really don't want to drop 130 bucks to buy a couple of the new plastic 10 rounders.
I'm also hoping if I mod them to work in the 180c they won't start jamming up in my trusty AR lol

Without taking measurements how do you know there is a variation in the rifle that is causing the issue?
There could be an issue with tolerances stack-up in the manufacturing of said magazines between batches and/or sub-contractors.
Had a bunch of 7.62x39 RRA magazines (10 of them) that worked flawlessly in my VZ-58 conversion.
The next batch of magazines that were imported did not work as well as my batch. Had people offering to buy my "earlier versions" so ensure they would work as intended.

Yes exactly, I would be more suspicious of the magazines being out of whack than the rifles.

Is the problem due to the magazine sitting too low in the gun? That could be the notch in the magazine located too high, or the catch in the gun sitting too low (less likely)

OR something different... problems with the magazine dimensions causing rounds to sit low in the magazine, or coming out st the wrong angle?

I’m just brainstorming

Deduction would reason that my Chinese norc da556 will function 100% reliably with all of my magazines all the time, every single time.
But not my 180c.
As to how I'm sure it's the issue see the posts above.
If the rifle was designed to use stanag magazines then reason would lead me to believe that all of these magazines which function flawlessly in my current norc ar and my previous sp1 Colt are all perfectly functional magazines and SHOULD then work in the 180c no?
Believe me, I now own a 180c and I want it to be the mags but I'm also a logical person.
