Which coin cell battery do you trust in your scope?

I have a couple of expensive scopes with illuminated reticles that use the 2032 coin-cell battery. I try to replace them every couple of years but the thought of one leaking and destroying the innards of a precious scope still worries me a bit. I know the safest thing would be to remove the battery when not in use but that's not always easy or timely and I'd always forget to put it back in.

Is there a type or brand of battery that you particularly trust? Has anyone ever had a coin cell leak? Looking for good or bad experiences with these little batteries. What do you use and why?

I have never had a coin battery leak. But I have had the AA and AAA ones leak.

If I had an expensive scope I would share your concern. You would sleep better if you took the battery out and stuck it on the scope with a piece of tape, so it was obvious that it was removed.

Coin cells do leak. I ruined an expensive digital caliper years ago with a supposedly brand name Cr2320 which leaked onto the contact surfaces and corroded them beyond repair . I buy the inexpensive coin cells on ebay, direct from China for as little as $.10 each, I buy in quantities and change them fairly often.
I find locally bought batteries may be well past their shelf life when purchased, mainly due to their higher prices and slower turn around.
After all, China is where most of the brand names are built anyway.

I put one of the name brand coin cell batteries in my VXR as I didn't want some cheap knock off battery in there.
That said, I think removing the battery if your not planning on using it for a few months is probably a good idea.

5 Renata batteries ordered and I will give them a shot. They're really cheap online and have free delivery. ($7 for 5).

I ve never had one leak yet, and one of my scopes had the same battery in it for at least five years. I guess I have been lucky so far.

I've had the coin type cells leak but they were on those cheap mini keychain flashlights.
Probably made in China so no surprise that they leak

Apparently they all have gaskets in the groove so they all could potentially leak. I was wondering if certain compounds were better because they're drier inside but couldn't find the info. I'll go with a reputable brand with high control standards and hope for the best.

I have several cheap red dot scopes, and the biggest hazard for me is forgetting to turn them off. Thus, all I ever use is el cheapo batteries. Might as well kill a $1 battery as opposed to some overpriced one. I keep spares in the bag for my 10/22 TD, plus have them scattered all over.
